A police chief has apologised for his force's failure to help a single mother who killed herself and her disabled daughter.
Fiona Pilkington, 38, set fire to her car with her 18-year-old daughter, Francecca Hardwick sitting beside her. They had suffered years of abuse from a gang of youths near their home in the village of Barwell, Leicestershire.
Leicestershire Police and two councils were criticised by the jury at the inquests into their deaths.
Jurors found that the police's failure to respond to the family's pleas for help contributed to their deaths.
In a press conference following the verdict, Temporary Chief Constable of Leicestershire Police Chris Eyre said: "We are extremely sorry that at times our actions failed to meet the family's needs and in retrospect there are things we would have done differently.
"I would like to offer my unreserved apologies to the family, community and wider public."
