This is a question for people who has had, or still have hemeroids.
I've had it for about two and a half weeks, and I'm doing things to try to help the hemeroids. I've been using "preparation H" for the swelling, and started to drink juice with added fiber in it (the fiber comes in a powdery form).
So I ask you this: Are their any other methods that you guys have tried? I've done a lot of research already, but to talk to someone who has had it before is all of the better.
And also: How long did you have hemeroids? I know it varies by person and/or severity, but to get multiple people's answer would be greatly appreciated.
PS: Don't say to "go to the doctor". That is a last resort.

Hemhroids are the worst, but luckily there is a tonne of things you can do at home to treat them as medical care is only the last resort if things don't improve at home.
Firstly, one thing that really helps a lot with hemmhroids is taking a sitz bath every night. Sitting in a tub of hot water for about half an hour daily does a lot to reduce the swelling down there.
Secondly, after each bowel movement it is good if you can wash your anal area so that there is not any residual fecal material in the area which can aggravate the swollen veins. I believe Preparation H also sells medicated wipes, but usually if you wash up after a bowel movement and then apply the Preperation H (or its generic equivalent), then you should be fine.
Thirdly, taking fiber pills goes a really long way to ensuring regularlity and having normal bowel movements. Usually taking 5-6 fiber pills per day does the job. What you are doing now is fine as well, but the advantage of fiber pills is that you don't have to worry about drinking nasty tasting fiber drinks. The juice with the fiber in it is all right, but taking the fiber pills directly is best.
Fourthly, make sure you intake plenty of fluids during the day. Also, when you are eating make sure you are drinking enough water or some fluid with your meal as you can easily get constipated if you don't drink enough fluids.
Finally, your hemmoroids will probably last for as long as you are passing hard stools. Once your bowel movements start producing soft stools, then things will improve rather quickly. Definitely give a sitz bath a try as those go a long way to improving hemmhroids, and you should improve in a matter of days.

Thanks for the comment! I have been using "Preparation H" and the fiber laxative for some time now. About three weeks I believe.

Thanks for the comment! I have been using "Preparation H" and the fiber laxative for some time now. About three weeks I believe.
I would avoid using laxatives as using those too much can disable your body's natural way of causing a bowel movement. However, taking a fiber pill is a totally different story as in that case it is a dietary supplement and not necessarily a laxative. Make sure you take the fiber pill which is the dietary supplement and not a laxative. Remember, the fiber additive in some drinks is pretty diluted, and it is always best to take actual fiber pills if you can; they really do make a big difference with regards to bowel movements.
I would definitely try doing sitz baths for a couple of days in a row, and that should alleviate things. At very least it will reduce the swelling for a short period.
If you are going on three weeks without much improvement from Preparation H, then you might need to seek medical attention. Most likely you will be given a cortizone cream/ointment which will be very effective at reducing your problem. However, before you go down the medical route make sure you are drinking a lot of water and fluids and that you are keeping things down there clean. Keeping things clean down there is half the battle, and also make sure you are changing your underwear everyday and that your underwear is not too tight.
I hope your condition improves.
