Poland's parliament has approved a law making chemical castration obligatory for convicted paedophiles and perpetrators of incest, sparking criticism from human rights groups.

Under the law, sponsored by Poland's centre-Right government, paedophiles convicted of raping children under the age of 15 years or a close relative would have to undergo chemical therapy on their release from prison.

"The purpose of this action is to improve the mental health of the convict, to lower his libido and thereby to reduce the risk of another crime being committed by the same person," the government said in a statement.

Well the last paragraphs of the news story are truely alarming:-

Poland's southern EU neighbour, the Czech Republic, has voluntary chemical and surgical castration laws in place for sex offenders.

Since 2000, around 300 Czech patients have undergone chemical castration, with around 94 undergoing the surgical removal of genitalia on a voluntary basis, according to Czech government statistics.

But the question that occurs to me is whether the chemical castration would work. Would it really cure a pedo, I very much doubt it. Even after physical castration they could still find other ways to molest if they wanted to.

I agree too, incest and child molestation is wrong and you need to be fixed before you can go back to regular society.

It would help with stopping molestation because you shouldn't get horny and then want to molest or rape anyone with out genitals. It is a extreme thing to do but it should lower the chances of second offenders and people will think before they act.

If you KNOW that you're going to get castrated after raping someone, and then do it, tough luck! It's their fault through and through, and its a perfectly acceptable punishment for someone who commits an act of that degree, while knowing what is going to happen to them.

It costs a lot of money to house people in an institution for the rest of their lives. And there are a lot of offenders and that is going to take up alot of space and cost money. Castration is extreme but it is a cheaper option.
