An Australian cat called Smokey has survived being shot in the head 13 times with an air rifle.
The nine-year-old Persian-cross even managed to walk home after the attack.
Smokey turned up on his owners' doorstep in Victoria, Australia, last week bleeding from the head.
A medical examination revealed the cat had 13 pellets lodged in his face and head but were only able to remove 11 pellets. The cat is now recovering from his ordeal but may lose the sight in one of his eyes.
Speaking to local media, owner Liz Dunn said: “I was just shocked someone could take an animal and just keep shooting them. They’ve contained him and just gone shot after shot, it’s just cruel and the fact he survived is just a miracle in itself.”
Local Police Sergeant Craig Pearse condemned the attack. He said: “We were absolutely horrified to learn of this report and this totally unprovoked act of aggravated cruelty.
“It’s a disgusting form of cruelty to animals, especially with a firearm involved and to make it worse is the fact the animal has been either held or cornered and repeatedly shot with a firearm. (Smokey's) a miracle cat . . . an amazing animal to live through that experience.”
