Its time for another school year. And time to start studying. Whether it's for a class test or major exam. How do you prepare? How do you learn stuff off? Do you have any weird methods of studying? Post all your studying tips here.

I'm addicted to studying for tests.
I tend to snack on chips because it keeps my mind occupied.
I like to be alone. And I like to be comfortable.

For university I read the assigned chapters before each lecture. After I've read the chapters once I go back and underline the general important bits in pencil. By that time I've read the chapter twice and so I then attend the lecture. Usually the professors have lecture slides in which case I can print them out and write on them, adding on to any additional information or different ways to think about it that the professor gives.

Once that is done, for studying more using the textbook I underline in blue pen and underline the more specific information. I may also write in the margins something very important that the professor said. If need be, I'll underline once more in black pen, underlining even more specific information.

After that, I write down the information in point-form either in the spiral notebooks or loose-leaf papers.

For high-school since we're not allowed to write or underline in the textbooks, I write on the handouts that the teacher gives or simply in spiral notebooks. For tests, I re-read the book and make point-form notes.

In both high-school and university, I use colour-coordinated poly-envelopes for each course and put the lecture notes, handouts or lab write-ups in them to keep them crisp.

For both high-school and university, I have very good photographic memory (although not a true eideitic memory).

I suck at studying, but when i do, I got through read what i need to read, make up my own kinda test on it. Or something, and go through it. If its something like a noval, ill do the same as INFERNO said, with the underlining of da stuff, and seeing how i brought my book i can draw in it.

I just review everything. If I have a study guide, I answer all the questions without looking at the answers. I have bad studying skills in theory, but they haven't failed me, but I am trying to improve. I don't study until like a couple of days before a test, not a week because I know I will forget.

I used to be like that!! But then I discovered that i needed techniques to study if i wanna pass the hard tests so i started to learn different ways of study. There are plenty of ways. I think each person should have its own way-to-study but here i can put some hints :)

When i study i have to hae like a comforting drink like cocoa
I have my music to help me get in the mood
i find when i do my breathing exercises it help me to stay focused for a period of time.

I cant eat. And music definetly distracts me.. I am a music fan lol
The breathing exercises sounds great, Thanks for the hint.

I think i will try the index cards thing. :)
I never could stand friends. They always do something differente than study

Well everything depends on the class and subject.
For the theory class.

First of all. Feeling comfortable is very important. Having a nice desk is great :)

-Reading, Reading , Reading and More reading about the topic. That helps to expand the knoledge and ideas.

-Underlying the book like a user said vefore is very accurate. If you cant do it in the schoolbook. Then using the handouts and copies. The notebook is great for taking notes while the teahcer is talking. Also for writing down the blackboard sketches. ;)

-I love pictures so drawing them in front of the text helps a lot.
When is too much text to read. I would recommend to do like "divisions" like an index of the text according to the lecture and try to get the importante idea of the division. For example: reading 30 pages about the history of internet.
The divisions could be:
1 Arpanet - 5 pages
2 Usenet - 5 pages
3 Interent in colleges - 10 pages
4 Internet in the XXO century - 10 pages.

Then extract the important part of each.

Homeworks:
-Internet is always helpful for looking for info and some pages even have java -apps to learn and flash movies.

Math: A calculator with grphics like texas instruments is very useful. A math software helps a lot too.

-Doing the exercieses given by the teacher in the book after reading a chapter must be done.

-Arriving at class with the chapter already read and questions about it.

-Asking the teacher always you have questions or if you dont understand something. It is good to do it afterclass so there is more time for the reply.
well thats for now the hints i remember. I will write more soon. ;)

If any1 have more doubts. Please feel free to post me a message in my profile or PM me :)

If you're trying to memorize something, write it down over and over again. Never failed me yet.

The best way to prepare for the exam is, make a timetable on how to study the different subjects according to your exam syllabus and make a a target that you must complete that much within that time duration.

For studying, it needs to be comfortable... I'll get a blanket and a hot chocolate, and read over the study guide, reread the chapters, whatever it is the test requires :)
