I went to a new school too, but I had friends in the new class... Yet, I started talking to other people too.
I can tell you what I did (although I was with my group): We started to play Uno with 2 girls of our class, and now we're friends; and you can talk about the classrooms you go to and stuff, and then elevate the conversation to another level.
Hope I was helpful! :D

This happened to me when I went to university. I knew some of my friends were also attending the same university but not all were in the same classes and even if they were, there was at least 200 other people whom I had no clue who they were.
My advice is to just go and talk to some people and when you do, keep this in mind: many of them are in the same state of confusion and panic as you are. The best way to talk to them is to just ask them about how they found the lecture or something basic because there's not really much you can lose. In the new classes, people are often looking for someone to be friends with and to study with, so even if you don't meet someone on the first try who ends up being a close friend, you probably can get a decent study partner.
You can also try to think of it like this: you don't know anybody there yet, however, think how it is when you first started school or even if you go shopping or elsewhere in public. You don't know the people around you, you may know a few people but in comparison to the population in the area you're in, you know next to nobody. In these situations you obviously managed to overcome them, especially the one for school because you managed to get accepted in a college.

the problem is ... many of them are already in groups of 3's and 4's and such ... because the majority of them come from the same school ... =/I feel like an outsider :S
