Someone could delete a post that was evidence, and if they can only edit it, then it still proves that they posted. There's some other complications, but I won't go into that much detail.

no that wouldnt work. topics should only be locked if they get out of hand or something along those lines, and we have enough mods to do that.

How wouldnt it work? If someone makesa topic and people go way off topic they can just lock. I see no negative to it.

Because responsible decisions are left up to qualified people (moderators). Members might even decide to lock topics out of spite if we allowed them to. So basically, post and be happy. If you have a problem, PM a moderator or an admin. It's that simple :)

But if its THEIR topic then let them lock it, they asked the question so if its answered and it gets locked, who cares? if its not answered the the topic creator locks it, who cares? As long as we can lock our OWN topic then why does it matter?

but some memebers may want to discuss a topic further and may ask questions themselves or something like that. topics shouldnt be locked just when the question is answered, only if it gets out of hand or way way way of topic.

Yea, that would not work. Users could just say things like "eff you!" and delete the post. What about insulting someone, then after the person has replied, editing the original post to make the other person look like a prick? Just letting people edit posts may cause problems.

Yea i agree with redcar, kiros, and advent child. More people might have to ask another questions of the same type, and just making a new topic would be pointless.
