Drawing the eye in

I'm not sure if I should do this in Tech Junky's or here, but anyways.

So I had 4 options for fine arts classes, you're supposed to put your top 3. So I had drama, and then photography. They mentioned when describing photography that they would teach you how to draw the eye in on a picture. Well, I ended up in drama.

Does anyone know the technique to draw the eye in?

Imagine a photo of a pier or jetty leading into a lake. The classic way to photograph that is with the pier at a sort of diagonal from towards bottom left into the centre of the photo. Its called drawing the eye into the picture. The same technique can be used with any straight edge, like a path, or a fence
