Hello there!
Today I randomly looked at a threat about Mac OS X update and well it gave me an idea, hope it hasn't been post before so here it goes.

Which do you prefer Mac or Pc?

[note]: You could get technical but, please know this is just for fun.

Personally I prefer a Mac, it's easier to use (for me at least), and the whole aesthetics of it.

What do you think?

i honestly prefer PC, yes it is more virus prone and the updates are annoying, but for what I like it. A PC is so much more convenient to me.
Besides Macs are completely backwards.
I use either one, but you say Mac or PC, and just because of preference I say PC.

PC all the way, i hate macs we got them at school and they are annyoing. And Virus wise for PC's use something like Norton and you'll be fine. Macs are not built for regular people there no right clickers on mac mouses and the power button is round the back corner why?

Definitely PC. We had macs at high school and have few macs at university, although most are Dells. PC's can be more likely to get hit by a virus or bug and to be quite honest, I'm willing to take that risk using a PC over a mac. Macs for me have constantly failed, even when I'm doing something simple, such as Word to using a fancier psychology program for analyzing something to running a biology simulation for studying ecology. All the things are supposedly mac-compatible and sometimes they do work but they seem to fail more than PC's.

Another reason is macs seem oriented towards looking flashy and PC's are of no exception to this, but macs seem to care more about looks than performance. They advertise that Mac Air is light-weight but who cares, it's a laptop, it's not going to weigh a lot, less than 15 pounds at the max., even for a fairly old one.

Macs also seem to be very unusual in that you have to go about and take a much longer route to getting the same thing done. For example, on a PC in Word, if I mispelled something and it does the little squiggly underline thing, assuming it doesn't recognize the correct spelling instantly, I can right-click and can have some choices. With a mac, I'd have to run the spell-check, go through every single little tiny thing before I can get to what I want. PC's seem to be built for more convenience whereas macs are just built for looking nice.

I wouldn't call myself a fanboy but Macs are better in almost every single way. It's much easier to do everything. The UI is just perfect, and sure they're expensive, but if you equip a PC to the same specs as a certain Mac the price is the same. You're just getting more for your money really. And yes they look better, because they can, aesthetics are important to me, if it looks like crap, chances are it's gonna be built like crap. I've dropped my comp so many times, from different heights at different angles, (not on purpose of course, I'm just clumsy) and it still works like a champ. To right click just hold down control and click. Pretty simple. And what does the placement of the power button matter? Seriously? If that's what makes you choose your comp then go right ahead with that. And about the spell check. I don't know forsure in Word but in Pages (the Mac equivalent of word) you just right click the word and it's got all the other words it could be. Works anywhere too. In my browser even. (Learning new things all the time hahaha) So anyway. Bottom line, in my mind, is that Macs win out of PC ever time, in every way. (for me you understand)

PC. I prefer PCs because they are more convient for gaming. I could care less if they are more virus prone. The only a Mac is good for, for me, is the GarageBand because I could restore stuff on it right from an amp chord. Apple has nice products, but they're computer can't paly many games, so Pc wins in my book.

I prefer Macs. But if I could afford one, I would Boot Camp it and put That way, you have the best of both worlds. But Windows 7 is looking very promising. Tough decision now.

in school where allowed to use the mac suite and i have to say there are very differant ups and downs, some things i like on macs and some i like on pc. the design obviously is better for macs and the keyboards pretty good after a while and the way it makes things simplar and also NO HARD DRIVE BOX thats a good one.
but it does just seem pointless and annoying on some of the macs features like having to hold down ctrl to right click. And in all honesty if i was to get a new computer i'd get a pc

Good Job.

Ppl, what you should also think about with buying a Mac. Is that, all macs made within the last 3 years(?) they can all run Windows. You can use it as if it was a PC. You can even get virus. But you can also use OS X. So you can have the safety of OSX and games of Windows. =D Its just really if you want to pay more for a computer that has some nice specs big screen (if buyin a mac) and no worries about tons of cables. :)

MSN sucks on Macs because of Windows, they may make Office for macs. So they can get money no matter what OS /(computer) you get. So to also bring to back to Windows (PC) they make it less good. And also less updates.

=D Wow i typed to much XD :P

I'd have to go with PCs. I've had a much more satisfying experience using a PC than a Mac, only because PCs are mainly focused on computing power and not flashy looks. When I wassaving my money to get a computer, I was highly considering on buying a Mac, but with the prices I couldn't afford it. Macs are rated only on their looks and not their power. PCs have great computing power and are perfect for anything and everything. The new Mac Air is constantly advertised as being lightweight. It's a laptop, it wouldn't weigh that much anyway. I'm way more impressed by a PC than a Mac. The prices on Macs are based around the company that makes them and not the initial product. Besides, who would pay $1500 MINIMUM for a Mac? PCs are not priced according to the company that makes them, but rather on their computing power. I'll agree, that both Windows 7 and Snow Leopard are very flashy, but I'd take my chances with Windows Vista or Windows 7 over a Mac OSX any day.

I have used Macs my whole life and just recently switched to a PC for the price difference since I am a student. Cheaper yes. In both senses of the word. It just stops working too often and Firefox wont start sometimes, the comp itself won't start up and I have to remove the battery for awhile and it just lacks the ease of use and simplicity of a Mac. Cheaper? Yes. Better? Hell no.

I'm a linux

What's linux, you ask?
Linux is a powerful beast, yet it operates covertly. For example, you probably have many linux devices in your house right now and don't know. Linux is open-source and free for everyone to use and develop.
Linux runs lots o' stuff, like

Most servers (Google runs all linux servers!)
Most home routers
Macs are based on linux (at the core)
Ipods and Itouches and iPhones are based on linux
to name a few.
You can customize linux completely, and there are many different "distributions" or "distros" out there that come set up with common software. My personal favorite is Ubuntu.
Linux is so freakin' secure. Also, it can run most windows software (with a free emulator called wine).
Linux makes it so easy to update and install software. On ubuntu, you just type what you want in the installer program or type
sudo aptitude install {software names}
and it will be installed. Like that.

Plus there's much more features...

Linux is not easy to drive, though. Maybe that's why it's just on servers.

I'm a linux, and I'm 13

Personally, I'm a pc person. From my experience, I think macs are just a bunch of over-priced, fan boy crap wrapped in a pretty shell. I think having one blow up when you're using it doesn't make for a very good impression, not to mention the countless times that they've randomly froze or crashed on me. There are those of you who say "Macs don't get virus' " it doesn't make up for the fact that they are such horrible computers and if you handle your pc correctly, it won't get a virus. The mac UI in OS X is horrible. It's a thoughtless arrangement of superfluous icons and artsy crap that people who actually use computers for real-world-applications just find annoying. Though, it's not that Windows in without its faults, it's just that I would jump for a pc over a mac.

Okay, I hate Macs and not only because Macs have too many new buttons, but because when they crash, they crash HARD. My mom was on her Mac and it crashed. She almost had to get a new Mac, because her whole system failed.
PCs rock, because it's funner and easier for me to use.

i actually have a pc and a mac...

PC
Pro's
all software is compatible
advantage when hooking up hardware

PS-
Mac is for people who dont know how to use a computer.
anyone can use a PC, but only people who are serious about computing can use a mac...
Its not as hard as it seems, took me three hours to figure every thing out tho
windows office
Con's
Virus prone
short battery life
Vista (lol)

MAC
Better for editting (video, audio)
7 hours battery life on mine
Super fast processor
more compatible with windows then you think (i can play powerpoints, open word and excel documents, and i am not using parallels)
faster processors and specs
Con's
price
some software wont work
thats about it

i love my mac, its perfect for university... long battery life and fast processor make it easy to use on the go... plus its like a 10 second start up time (perfect when running late for class)

PC is more for people who like gaming and arent into all the video editing and stuff... dont get me wrong, you can do amazing things on a pc and i have for years, but mac is more designed towards it

They're too expensive.
They can't play games.
They're not powerful.
They're not supported much.
OSX is a shitty OS and it junks up more than windows in my experience.
There is little driver support for any device you plug in.
They are not the top notch high quality for the price.
You cannot customize them.
You cannot repair them yourself.
They do depreciate pretty damn fast. You cannot sell them, because no one wants them.
Steve Jobs is a douche.

tl;dr: PCs cost less, and do more.

Questions?

EDIT: I love the iTouch/iPhone, though. I don't hate Apple, I just hate the computers.

Well... I'm relatively hopeless with computers...
I use the mac for home work and things, it seems to ahve nice layouts and hey, presentation is pretty much everything that you need at my school, it doesn't matter if it's complete bullshit.
But I prefer the PC for gaming and such. *nods*
PC is alot better because it seems to run better 3rd party programs-- what? O_o

-Where’s the right click button? Yes, I know you can adjust the system to work with a right click. But that defeats the simplicity. Software applications use the right click button for a reason.

-Compatibility. So you want to use that special software program on your Mac? Good luck. Even Google releases PC versions first, then Mac. Now wait…what’s that? I hear a fanboy saying “well I can just install Windows on my Mac”. Again, that defeats the purpose. How many Mac buyers know how to do that? And those pricey cords you need to buy to attach your Macbook to a monitor? There’s a reason people hate proprietary products like that. .

Overall, I prefer mac. Its more user friendly and hasn't given me a single problem since I got it. It was really easy for me to get used to, and now its hard for me to use the PCs at school and the one I have here for like graphics editing. The only real problems I have are the lack of software and I can't put Corel PSP on here so I have to get Adobe when I get the money, but for that I just use my old PC. I love my laptop cuz the whole trackpad clicks rather than just the one little button, which is so much easier.

Macs are better. To be honest, people usually only say PC because they are used to them. I have used both (in fact, I've used PCs more) and I'm going to have to say that macs are both more reliable, efficient, and generally faster. If a game crashes on a PC, it takes ages to get back onto the desktop, and sometimes the whole machine fails. If it crashes on a mac, the operating system is very efficient at closing that programme down; failures on parts of the mac generally don't affect other parts as they do with windows. Furthermore, I've seen many random issues with windows (including some PCs spontaneously shutting down and getting blue lines across the screen and similar glitches), but never with macs. Besides, they look better in both outside appearance and on-screen operating system appearance.

So, it's macs. They are more expensive for a reason. In fact, they've also been around 28 years more than PCs have.

Eh what?
The first IBM PCs started rolling out August 12, 1981. About 3 years BEFORE the first mac came out (January 24, 1984).

Also, 28 years is a big number to be throwing around considering the Personal Computer industry only around 30 years old itself.

A big part of it is strictly marketing
When you buy a mac you aren't buying just a computer your buying a brand

Its like getting an abercrombie & Fitch hoody over one at walmart
and don't give me that quality crap cause both my abercrombie hoody's had to have new zippers put on LOL

When my sisters mac breaks down she has to either dive it to a store (she lives nowhere near one), or ship it, in both cases its gone for awhile.

When my dell breaks I call them up and within 24/36hrs depending on parts availability they're at my door step and they fix it on my kitchen table right in-front of me.
I have an old XPS M1710 and ya its a battery hog because its an old gaming laptop its built to burn hot and fast.
But it's always worked great and when it does break down I call dell and theyre here ASAP

How come you can't get multi-touch screens with mac?
How come you can't get blue-ray players/burners with mac?

I love the look of them
I used to have an ibook
and I've had 2 separate imac's before

But I love my PC.....I'll just love it a lil more when I finally can afford the Win7 upgrade LOL

I bought both my mum and dad new Dell inspirion laptops (and they aren't the cheapest ones they're nice systems) they both have 23" widescreen HD monitors, a nice set of speakers, a new wireless N-router, and 2 sets of wireless keyboard n mice complete with 4yrs complete care warrenty coverage WITH lo-jack for just over 4 grand

You cant get muli-touch screens on a mac because the OS is to complex to make muti-touchable. But soon! :D

Blue-ray... How long have they been out? Apple don't wanna go adding something new (Which could cause problems...) which only a hand full of people might use.

They are very smart when it comes to adding things.

Zomggggggg but WHAT is the meaning of getting a Mac when the first thing you do ,you install Windows to it??? Doesn't make any sense!!!.

Well... Apple know that it sucks to no be able to run window programs, so they give you an easy way to split the HD. Like I use bootcamp (The app that splits the HD) so I can do my school working using programs that wont work on a mac.

Ironically, I use my PC to edit movies (I LOVE SONY VEGAS, anyone agree?), and for just checking things here and there. But I ALWAYS am having problems with it.

It seems like PCs just can't get it right. Virus here, crash there.

With Mac, I have never had a problem. For editors (that prefer Final Cut) it's better. Macs are just better because Apple makes the computer and OS.

Ah. Now if Apple wanted to sell Apple TV. They'd do something so much better with it. Apple TV, sucks... P101ers. If they wanted to really sell it, they would put a BR player in it, and have it with more space, and so much more. But no, ATV is shit. Only reason apple is ignoring blueray is cause its still

Perhaps Jobs' most puzzling or awkward comment during Tuesday's event was regarding what is assumed to be the standard in high-definition packaged media. Regarding Blu-ray, Jobs described it as "a bag of hurt". He expanded, saying that he meant that not from a consumer experience perspective, but that the licensing is expensive and complex. Apple apparently plans to take a wait-and-see approach after Blu-ray has been in the market awhile.

Though Jobs clearly left some wiggle room in his answer, don't expect to see a Blu-ray drive in an Apple notebook anytime soon. If you're disappointed, blame iTunes. Apple is in the middle stages of building a video download business, and it's clear that the company wants its customers to use iTunes to watch high-definition videos, not revert to packaged media, where it can't get a slice of the revenue as it does while selling or renting digital content.

While Blu-ray is certainly the dominant high-definition format, it's still not the dominant packaged media format. DVD sales are tapering off, but still haven't completely disappeared. By the time that happens, it's assumed digital downloading for videos will become more common. In the interregnum, the major Hollywood studios are hedging their bets, some offering titles as a free download once you buy the title on disc.

But not Apple. In fact, Blu-ray's presence in an Apple computer is pretty much a moot point, according to Steve Baker, vice president of industry analysis for NPD Group.

"They're [Apple] not trying to be everything to everyone like Netflix or Blockbuster. They're going to keep trying to deliver economy around digital downloads. I still question why anybody would question or care whether they'd have Blu-ray," he said.

Macs are excellent for games. Personally, I've experienced better performance and it almost never crashes compared to that of a PC (moreover with newer games) and on the rare occasions it does, you can quit out of it and restart very quickly since Macs are very efficient that way.

BTW, I've been using a PC and a Mac all my life and I know which I prefer - the latter.

I am more adapted to Microsoft Operation System. From 95 up till 7. I have never tried Mac OS X or any other related OS. However, I have tried Unbuntu a couple of time.

In addition, not many games are ported to MAC system; It was a downfall for Mac for not having many games compatible to it. But as new games being developed in the recent years, they are proved to have the ability to work on the any system which was released beyond '01.

So. I'd say Microsoft beats Apple this time as well. But it ended the competition for giving its adversary the chances it needed.

Diehard PC. I'm not fond of Macs (or Apple in general :P) because they seem ridiculously overpriced for the hardware they're shipped with. If I can get a computer equal in performance to any Mac for 1/3 of the price, I will. Plus, I like being able to add new hardware at will.

Mac

Most people who favor PC have no disses on Mac.

Here is what they have against it:

*Mac is gay
*Mac is stupid

Mac has a few REAL things on PC:

*PCs DO crash often. I have one (and a Mac)
*PCs get many many viruses! Macs do not.
Many people say, well its easier to hack a Mac-- It is. But no one does it so...
There have been about 50 viruses for Mac in it's lifetime, all before OS X (before XP on the PC timeline)
*PCs have software made my one company- and the hardware by another. That is why there are compatibility problems. Hardware and software and OS made my Apple for Mac

Thats all.

PC it the best you can't overclock mac or build mac you can't play games on a mac i still have seen anyone use a mac os in a oc compoition , you can't up grade a mac and mac are expensive $2000 for a mac you that money you could build a hell of nice gamen rig

The people who use Macs dont waste their time playing games. Just saying.

I've always used windows, I got sick of the problems, so i switched, best thing ever!

A few things:

macs are costly, why? Cause apple make sure they work, they pick the chips, HD, everything. They make sure the OS works for the computer. Microsoft just sell the OS to everyone to put on any computer, that's why they have such a huge market. Apple don't want their OS running on 100s of different computers with 100s of different parts. Wheee apple, they know the in and out of a mac. iMac mac mini mac pro. One call and you have all your problems dealt with. With a pc, you ring Microsoft, they tell u it's a hardwear problem, so you have to ring them, they say something like it's cause it's not mad to work with it.

And apple use other chips, but look at their new things, ipad now has a chip made by apple for it's product, so it works. 5 years, apple will have their own chips in all their things. From iPod to mac.

Let's clear this up. Apple did NOT make the chip in the iPad (Even though it's called the Apple A4)
A company called Intrinsity created the processor used in the iPad (Which Apple later, bought out.), but Apple themselves, couldn't do it.

Haha

Hahahahaha

Heh

Hehehe

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

No.

Apple bought them out because of money.

As I said, Intrinsity made the chip from start to finish, Apple had no say in what was made, how it was made, and how the interface works. They simply used a chip that was already in existence (In the same manner that Intel & NVIDIA/ATI chips are used in their Mac line).
Now then, back to the money bit. Apple thought that Intrinsity was charging too much per chip (Which in turn, would decrease the profit that Apple would make), and Apple really liked the chip that Intrinsity had made, so Apple offered the company a large, lump sum payment in return for ownership of the company. Intrinsity took the offer.

Apple didn't buy Intrinsity to 'have control', they bought the company to save money.

I prefer mac i got mine last christmas and ive loved it since ive got it, its simpler to use, better designed and loads more is better than windows. The only thing that lets it down is the lack of games that are compatible for it. But thats easy to solve...Just go into bootcamp (you can split your hard drive into to having one side mac and one side windows) giving you both operating systems! The only way you can do this on a windows i believe is Virtual p.c.

I hardly use Macs so I can't say too much on them but they are based on Unix I believe, which is where Linux comes from if I am right. But still, Windows = shit. Saying that, I would quite like to dualboot it with Ubuntu as I need it for school and music (the one thing I don't like about Ubuntu, it doesn't play most of my music and I can't sync music to my Creative Zen for some reason) and shit like that. Plus, Ubuntu looks nicer than both Windows and Mac OS X.

I prefer PC because it is affordable and to me it seems more universal. There are a lot more programs available for PC, not that I will use all of them but it shows how universal it is. Windows 7 is pretty good, I have not had any problems with it, and I like the new organization. It is to get work done.

I like Macs too, for their good looking interface and because they are good with multimedia and photoshop. I like how the desktop is almost made to showcase the image being used. But they are just too damn expensive. A macbook air starts at 999$ and it has 1.4GHz, 2 GB memory and 64 GB of storage. That seems very low for something that is worth 1000$. Apple is a luxury brand, luxury as in not always convenient but 'pretty' and expensive.

The term "PC" juststands for PersonalComputer(in case you didn't know). Although PC's are usually associated with Windows, they can run Linux, Unix, DOS, and much more. And if you want to run multiple OSes, just use GRUB (www.gnu.org/software/grub/) or VirtualBox (http://www.virtualbox.org/). Personally, I find that Windows 98 runs okay in VirtualBox with openSuSE as the host.

Mac's are too easy to hack if you know some simple shell commands. I'll even tell you how:

Rebbot the Computer
Hold [Apple] + S
Wait until you see a black screen with white letters.
(Now the fun begins) Use the following commands:

# chmod 777 -R /usr/bin
# exit
So what does that do? Basically, it sets the folder /usr/bin so that everyone can read, write, and delete files in/to/from it. Then it reboots the computer.
DISCLAIMER: I'm not responsible for any damages occuring to your or someone else's machine after doing this. Neither am I responsible for any trouble you may get into after doing this. Do this at your own risk.

First of all, PC is not an operating system, I'm sure most of you are referring to Windows.
Now, being a software developer myself, I can honestly say the OSX Development platform is one of the worst things I've ever worked with(In comparison to the Win32 SDK). I use Windows for development of anything remotely relating to memory or assembly because it's just simpler in Windows in comparison to Cocoa. However, Windows is an awfully secured operating system, users can get access to kernel-mode APIs just by telling the computer their code is a driver (src:(http://undocumented.ntinternals.net/)).
I would, however, recommend a Mac to anyone who is not looking for simple single-platform development, and just wants their computer to work with little trouble.

The people who are saying "lol zomg pc rox mac can't right click." It's called System Properties then Mouse settings.
OSX is not an inferior operating system because your precious Call of Duty was made by unconscious developers that didn't care to add OpenGL support because they were lazy, and their engine already used DirectX. (Making is platform-dependent).

Also, I thought I'd just throw in the fact that Windows threads are awfully implemented and that fork() is a much more efficient method for achieving similar things. (Which Linux implements beautifully).

In short: If you're a gamer and can't handle anything new, stick to your precious Windows.
If you want your computer to work simply and well with little or no hassle, welcome to OSX.
If you want to be able to brag about how 1337 you are, and REALLY want to become a great programmer, come on over to Linuxville.

It is hard to guess where the error came from, especially since we don't have the name of the failing server. But I'd postulate two possible causes:

- The service is a third-party one that was designed for a previous version of Windows, thus more likely to fail;
- A hardware failure - such random BSODs are commonly occurring because of a malfunctioning (either defective or overheating) part of the hardware.

If the problem happens again with the same service, check what it is, what it is supposed to do, and if it is not a necessary one, try disabling it. If you get other BSODs at random, then it could be a good idea to perform hardware testing of the whole computer.
