View Full Version : I think it's infected? :/

Help! D:
I was at wit's end, and used an extremely old, blunt, rusty razor. I had nothing else. I am usually very articulate about keeping things clean. Immediately after cutting, I even soak the cuts in alcohol. (Partially for the burn, partially to keep them from getting infected.) I always do a pretty good job of doctoring them up, if I do say so myself.

Now, I have this cut on my upper arm, and I'm pretty sure it's infected. I have NO idea what to do. I regret using that old razor. I drench it in alcohol every few hours, put NeoSporin on it, everything. Nothing is working, it still looks and feels infected. It's all oozing, and red.

If my Mom finds out I've been cutting again, my life as I know it will become even more hellish than it already is.
She threatens me regularly with Cedar Crest. (It's a center for "emotionally distressed" teenage girls, and it's like 900 miles away from us WTF.) I seriously can't go back there.
What can I do about the infection? Should I see a doctor somehow, or just wait it out and see if it gets better? Do infections even go away on their own? I sound like an idiot, but that's probably because I feel like I'm going insane right now.
Thanks to everyone that answers.

Waiting for an infection to go away is not the bright thing to do

Get yourself to a doctor as fast as possible, even if it means your mom finding out..

Were I'm from, here in Australia, if your 16 or over, your parents don't need to be informed if you go see a doctor. I don't know what the age requirment is over there, but it could be a very good idea. Apart from that there are ointments that you can buy from drug stores specialy for this sort of thing, they come with good detail on how to use them.

If you need a clean razor blade, and do NOT think I'm telling you this because I want to make it easyer for you, just so you atleast use something clean, because you will probly cut either way, but if you can get a spair blade for a stanly knife that makes a far better option. Its what I did, and has served me well for almost a year.

Thanks to both of you. I COULD probably go to a walk-in clinic without my Mom finding out. I really don't want her to know, I've already been a huge burden on this family. Thanks Stranger, for the razor idea.

Stop soaking it in rubbing alcholol....it's taking away any of the new healing cells.

if you used a blade that was rusty, there's a chance you've picked up teatnus. Unless you've had a booster in the past 3(or maybe it's four) years you need one now ... actually you might need one now even if you did get your last one recently since it's infected.

Some infections arent bad, and you don't need to go anywhere, but this one probably does. are there any walk-in clinics in your area?

Gah, I love putting Rubbing Alcohol on them though. The burn is so intense..it's great. I guess I should stop for now...
Do you think it's okay to still put it on new cuts? (I only put alcohol on new cuts usually one time only, right after I make the cuts.)

There is a walk in clinic near me. It's only about a mile away, I could get to it easily. Do you think they allow teenagers to just come in without a parents' consent?

I read somewhere that if a wound becomes infected you should always go to a doctor, because you could end up with a high fever or worse.

As Random Stranger says, where I come from you can also go to the doctors and it be confidential, if you are 16+, so if you make this clear to your doctor, they can't tell your mum.

I really don't think you should leave it because it won't get better any time fast.

1)It's better if you don't, but I can see why you'd do it.
2) Yeah. You're sixteen, they can't really say anything
