I recently started doing this with my fingers with lotion and I notice that the hangnails seemed to scratch the inside of my anus a little. Is there a way to prevent this?

Trimming your nails is definitely a good idea. You may also want to use a nail file, just to make sure there are no sharp edges. Your other option would be to put a condom over your finger next time, or even use a rubber glove.

I do have short finger nails. I cut them/file them once a week because I play bass anyway. The problem are the hangnails on the side of the fingers. Does anyone else have an excess amount of these?

You could trim it more often or you could use something else, like a sharpie pen

Definitely cut your nails, not only will you avoid scratching but its cleaner anyway.

Cut + trim your nailes a few days before you do it. that way it gives nature (the elements and everyday life) time to naturally file your nails.

Just trim your nails, and get rid of the hangnails, though I doubt its the hangnails that are causing the problem, they are very soft, and couldn't cut anything.

Those little bits of nail on the side are always tough to trim without ripping off more than you mean to; if you find you're having difficulty trimming just enough, don't bother! Just use a rubber glove. It's safer and more hygenic.

Wear a glove. You're fingers won't smell like poop!

(Also, I'd really recomend against using hand/body lotion on your anus. Use glycerin or personal lubricant - there are fewer chemicals.)
