Come evening hurry on,
chase away the daytime hours,
what use to me is daylight
without my love?
Come evening, come you soon,
bring hope and expectation
of time together, time shared,
with my love.
Come evening, wait though, wait,
for my love is away,
and so for now the evening
just extends the dreary day.
Come evening, find me now
morose and melancholy.
I miss you, though you're not long gone,
my absent love.
Come evening, that at last
I may find rest in sleep,
where sadness may perchance give way
to dreams of love.
chase away the daytime hours,
what use to me is daylight
without my love?
Come evening, come you soon,
bring hope and expectation
of time together, time shared,
with my love.
Come evening, wait though, wait,
for my love is away,
and so for now the evening
just extends the dreary day.
Come evening, find me now
morose and melancholy.
I miss you, though you're not long gone,
my absent love.
Come evening, that at last
I may find rest in sleep,
where sadness may perchance give way
to dreams of love.
