View Full Version : Suicide?

I'm interested to know if people have varying views on what happens if you kill yourself, does your soul (Do you even have a soul?) is trapped or free or whatever.

Personally I like the film BeetleJuice's take on it, which is that anyone who commits suicide is doomed to forever be a civil servant in the afterlife.

I'm open to suggestions however :)

I have had when I used to go to church that taking some one's life was an unforgivable sin. That also means taking your own life. The only time taking a life is acceptable is in self defense of you or your loved ones or in time of war.

Cold blooded murder and suicide fall into the same category and can't be forgiven by God.

This is just what I have been taught.

Suicide is unforgivable. Though sometimes, if the person is not in their right mind, it can be forgiven, as they weren't sane. Most of the time, though, it is unforgivable, and you will go to hell, as it is a form of murder, and you aren't doing it out of self defense or the military.

Suicide is a way to end life earlier. Although everyone has much to live for, it's their decision. I strongly disbelieve in souls, the afterlife, etc. The only consequence is the people you hurt including your family and friends.

Well, i've attempted suicide five times, died once, and came back. And somehow, i didn't get locked in eternity of hell fire.
If there is a god, i think he would try to understand why you would make your act, even if it is for stupid reasons.

Assuming you have a soul, then I believe it would be released when you're dead and there's no hope in bringing you back to life. For example, if you flatline and get revived, then your soul would still be in you. Some may debate that the soul pops out for a bit then goes back in but I'll leave that debate aside.

As for where your soul goes, well, this depends on what you believe. If you're a Christian, then I can see two different sides. The first side, being that of you going to heaven, is centered around that if god exists, then god doesn't look at the superficial, he looks "inside" you. In other words, he would see your internal suffering and battles and may show some sympathy, especially if you've adhered to the Christian morals and the rest of its beliefs. The other side, being that of you going to hell, is centered around the idea that suicide is an unforgivable sin and if you are a believer, then you haven't been removed of sin. The idea behind this is that the Holy Spirit (assuming you accept it) leads you to becoming as best as you can be and when you die, then you are sinless. However, with suicide, you end the process earlier and god may see that you've acted selfishly by putting yourself before him and acting cruelly by having your loved ones mourn over you.

Of course, there are hundreds of thousands of other beliefs, so depending on what you believe in, assuming you believe in the soul, then you'll go to different places or be reincarnated, etc... .

What my beliefs have taught me is that no sin is unforgivable. No matter how heinous the act, no matter how horrible the intent, there is no sin that God cannot forgive, and no sin that people cannot be free from through faith in Him.

That's just what my beliefs have taught me.

:(

COol you came back though, you're being kept alive for some reason ;)

I was born dead, so technically i've already died as well, don't remember anything though.

Dunno why, but this makes sense to me, i believe our souls stay alive, all of us could not have feelings and personality without 'something' like a soul, and since only your body dies, and theres no 'soul' in your body.. But hey, your soul could also become a part of someone/something else.

Oh wow, I wouldnt ever want to tell anyone they will go to hell. So God, the all merciful, is the God of damnation?

Now that I can agree with.

Absolutely.

I'm not sure that I believe in the concept of a soul. I suspect that when you're dead thats it, finished, nothing.

I remember falling asleep and everything just went black that one time i actually succeeded (kind of) in suicide. There was no light, no chariot came and pick me up. Truly, i don't remember any of it. I remember waking up in a psychiatric ward after that.

I don't think there really is a soul.

The christian god and most others sound very judging to me. Nobody has ever met him, so we can't really say what he agrees or disagrees with.
but if god is a loving person, then he would understand probably.

I believe in some circumstances suicide is the only/best option.

I completely agree. Nicely worded, theres nothing new for me to say about it now(:
