Last year, in 8th grade, they gave us barely any homework. I had maybe 20 minutes of homework per week. The whole year, they were saying "we are preparing you for high school". well that was a load of bs lol
This year, i've never had more homework in my life! usually in every subject, up till 11pm or midnight finishing it! It also puts me in a lot of stress, and pressure to finish it.....its maybe just me, and I still need to adjust to this.
comment if u have similar problems, or if there is any way to not get so stressed over homework.

In ninth grade, no such thing happened as it was pretty much the same as eighth grade. There was a minute increase but not much. In grade eleven there was a large increase because I took four AP courses and I was lazing around in grade ten. Then, the next biggest increase was 1st year university because everyone was bugging me endlessly about how 1st year would be so hard so I listened to them. Then of course came frosh week and such, so as a result I just doddled for a bit. The first week of classes came ridiculously easy I thought everyone was joking so I laid back, tried half-assed and ignored most of everything until the next week or so when I realized it sped up and I wasn't even paying attention. I got caught up as I wasn't too far in the shitter but that left me just crawling out of the shitter. To put it mildly, the football team came and everyone took laxatives and then I was in deep. But I managed to dig my way out in time and wasn't screwed, enough to get me some 80-85%+ marks then came more stuff then the exams. I managed to get high marks and not to screwed.

Depending on where you live, the homework standards vary. And it also depends on the school and teacher. If your lucky, you get the ones that don't give alot of homework. but they give you enough to pass highschool. But there are those that give you so much homework, you stay up till 12am+ finishing it and it can get you into a 4 yr college like UCLA or Stanford. So if it was me, i'd appreciate it more, but at the same time, i won't do the homework because im lazy. lol

lol. yes, thats a good point... I think also the problem is that i take AP french, so that gives a huge amount of homework, on top of some other homework I have.. it all adds up.

i dont get this much, you sound like you need a break. maybe organize yourseld better to do some of your h/w before dinner and after dinner. anyway the start of the year always has more h/w, so soon it should be less.

If you start right when you get home, it should be a lot easier. Take a break for dinner, if needed, then go right back to it. If you are getting any more than 2 hours homework, then there is something wrong. I'm a sophomore, and I get maybe 1 hour homework, and I take 3 accelerated classes.

Prepare for an epic post... If you have any urge to use the restroom or to get a snack, please do so now because you will be here reading for a while. xD
*Try organizing your homework, based on what has to be turned in the next day, which will take the most time, etc. For bigger things, that you have a few days or more to work on, leave it until you've finished the stuff that HAS to be done. Don't keep it until the last minute, break up the work into chunks so you can get it done gradually in the time you have, but give more pressing assignments the priority. It may also help to do the hardest work first--the rest will seem like a breeze after that. Something hard, followed by something easy, followed by something more in the middle might be a good way to break it up.
*If you don't currently have some sort of agenda book or dayplanner that you write all of your assignments in, invest in one. Not only will you never forget an assignment (as long as you write them down), but checking things off the list as you complete them helps you feel productive. I love crossing something off in my planner; the list looks shorter, and I can physically see that I have one less thing to do. It's not so overwhelming that way.
*Another tip is to relax. Even if you have a particularly large load one night, don't let it overwhelm you. Just do what you can. Don't keep checking the clock! Cover it up if you have to, eventually you'll learn not to focus on it so much. If you have somewhere to go later in the afternoon, set an alarm on your phone to remind you so you don't have to stress about the time. The longer you spend thinking about how late it's getting, the less work you get done and the poorer the quality of what does get done--trust me.
*Remember that it's ok if you don't finish everything every night. Do the best that you can, but if it's midnight and you honestly don't feel like you can keep going any longer without exploding.... just stop. Sometimes taking a break or calling it a night is better than killing yourself to get the work done.
Those are the big tips for avoiding homework stress, and I'll cut it off here to save your brain from having to read much more. You're already worried about not having time for homework, so I won't take up much more of it to keep blabbering. xP If things don't work or you feel like you'd like more help with your study skills, though, you can feel free to PM me. I'm a sophomore in college with a 3.9 GPA, and I've learned a lot about how to get things done without spazzing too much. Good luck! :)

Maybe your problem is distractions, like this for example.
The only way to get your homework done, is to do it.
Life is hard, school prepares you for it.

Now I passed to the 10th grade, but on the 9th grade, I only had homework for like 4 or 5 times. It was good not to have it, but when we did, we forgot about it because we were not used to... :P
(By the way, this is my 100th post!)

yes, I agree with all of you... the homework load has gotten lighter.. and french is lighter too.. maybe they pushed us in the beginning, and then slowed it down.. its better now at least. a few hours a night.. usually 2, but thats not too bad. I just get home and finish it, then I'm free.
Luckily I have an agenda, and a whole separate computer just for homework

I'm in gifted 8th grade for all academic courses AND French. My life sucks right now school-wise. I'm a procrastinator, which worsens it. Over three-fourths of the kids in gifted 8th have the same problems as me. Join the club.

just something you need to adjust and get used to. It for me got a whole lot worse your in the equivalent of first form in britain it's not so bad compared to sixth form that i'm in now. for example during the Halloween week holiday i had about six essays to get done..... long essays.
because of your new school (junior high or whatever) you have a differant teacher for each subject meaning the bastards can just chuck homework at you without a care:(
just get used to it and DONT leave it till the last minute or you'll be up all night, most likely not getting all of it done, your teacher'l get mad sqeeze your head, your brains will come out your nose and you'l die......... don't forget to have fur:rolleyes:

i have the same problem.
My Only Suggestion Is To split it up over the week.
Take breaks. Dont do it all at once.
good luck x

Oh, goodness. Hang in there. Just find the right environment to make it easier to work those late hours. I found that a certain playlist of music over headphones, bright lighting, and green tea made me work better at nighttime.
It doesn't get any easier in higher education, though. I don't even get home from school (labs) to start my homework until midnight, sometimes even 2 AM.

I was always, always stressed back in the days of gradeschool. I have decided not to give a crap about homewokr- it's only there to torment you and keep you from experiencing the good things in life. It's only ten percent of your grade (30 where I come from), so as long as you do well on tests you'll be fine.

That happened to me when I switched schools in 6th grade! They gave me so much homework I was up to my eyes! I learned to manage it though and now I'm in 8th grade at the top of my class. (:

i start tuesday to an all boys prep school -- we got work to do over the summer.
homework where i go is like everyday - it takes me like 5 hours per day.
most of us stay right at the school -- dorms.
if we are late we better have a good reason -
we have tough rules --- one of the reason we moved to the united states was this school. ( plus my step dad is in the united states navy )
some times i wish i went to a regular school ( public )
my school is a roman catholic prep military school for grade 6 to 12 -
we all have to wear uniform school suits -- many r sent home because of all the rules.
-- so i know what it is like to have home work ---- i have only 2 more days of freedom.

Yeah, because homework takes up so much time to do. It's definitely there to torment you. /sarcasm

In 8th grade we barely got any homework. 9th grade was a little more, but not much. 10th grade the workload increased again, but still nothing to complain about....
Then 11th grade, BAM!! We got so much work that one girl cried because of it. People started skipping school just to finish their assignments. Everyone was up til 11-12 (my bedtime is 10! D:) finishing assignments.
Anyway, I recommend planning out everything to the extreme. If your teacher gives you a 35-question packet due in a week, divide the number of questions by the number of days so you do 5 questions per day. You don't want to find yourself up in the wee hours of the morning finishing an assignment the day it's due.

I had the same thing happen at the beginning of 9th grade. I would be doing like 4 or 5 hours of homework every night, especially since I was taking AP Gov. But after a month or so, I got used to it, and it went down to an hour and a half/two hours. Hang in there! You'll get used to the high school workload soon enough.

Homework is just normal if you are schooling. Homework helps the children learn with interest. It builds confidence in their minds. By doing the homework, children learn to cope up with their school activities and master the subject.
