Hypothetically speaking, if some unknown entity were to post a video on a forum about cutting/self harm and the causes of such (lets say they were being bullied as a child and nothing more.) Supposedly, the video is for a class assignment, but we can't really ascertain the reasoning for posting it on a forum. Do you think doing such would be worthy of the title "attention whore"?

Additionally, do you believe that there is justification for cutting? Are all cutters attention whores? Is it unwarranted?

What do you think?

i wouldn't call them an attention whore unless i knew they past and life, everyone has problems that are too hard too voice so they self harm but everyone is different, some will do it for attention but other wont i guess you have to know them before you can label them.

Hard to say really, I think if a person is extremely in-your-face about self harm, just to get help or the like, they might be a bit of an attention whore, yes.

It really depends on the person's background and reasons, though.

You know my views on this.
For all those who don't - I just want to say that said poster did make a mistake in how the video was represented and no offense, the video was made very sloppily and shitty in the tech and alignment and such. But it didn't warrent said argument that occured.
And I think how the video was made looked a little attention-whore-ish. Needs to be remade.

Imagine Vickie Gotti going into a rant about being unable to open a pickle jar. Very dramatic, overly theatrical and told as if the individual were a brutal rape victim.

With no other motive, do you think it's reasonable to presume the individual did it out of a craving for attention?

No it wasn't

This is Ramblings of the Wise for a reason. Elaborate or don't bother.

Who are you talking about? This is all a hypothetical situation.

i think it was just made to give the point about self harm across nothing more

For clarity, lets suppose this video spends the majority of the time discussing the events before cutting. About a minute and thirty seconds. Give or take. Is that reasonable in an attempt to get the word out for cutting?

Harley Quinn

no but it is telling you what made a person self harm and so it gives you an idea into the world of that person

It would be more attention whore-ish if that said person went about it like "I was bullied, I self harm, I cant take it, pity me" but they didnt. they posted the video looking for opinions how to make the video better. their intentions were not to seem like an attention whore.

this is true, i didnt see one word about the person wanting pity they wanted ideas on how to change it

no but it is telling you what made a person self harm and so it gives you an idea into the world of that person

But if it were just warning about self harm, why not just tell of the dangers of it instead of spending the time in a monologue about what caused it?

How do you know? Is it implausible that the query of asking how to make it better was a front to disguise the desire to get pity feedback?

for some it's done for attention, but for the rest out there sometimes they do it and don't let anyone know they hide it and when people find out they keep hiding it. now some on the other hand do it for attention, they cut in the most visable plase ever and tell everyone. the one who don't do that are not attention whores now are they.

if i were to make a video i would want other to know what happened to make me self harm and the vid said "any ideas on how to improve this" thats how i know

And what exactly is your motive in opening this thoroughly nasty and vindictive thread Chris? Attention seeking at all?

It can be argued, however, that they drop subtle hints to lead people down to discovering it on their own. As a ploy to see if they care enough to investigate. It can also be argued that we don't know if they don't tell anyone because we can't actually get a record of everyone the person has ever talked to. Maybe certain people, they don't tell -- but does that mean everyone is in the dark about it?

I'm vindictive and nasty? I'm debating a serious topic and you're turning it into a way to personally attack me. By the way, you don't know me; we're not on a first name basis, Just.

I dont know, and its not. But this hypothetical person really doesnt seem like the type of person who wants pity feedback.

I dont know its not my place to say if its a front because i dont know them personaly so i cant say "oh what an atention whore" and i would never say that ever

Well I know this for a fact
most people are ashamed of cutting(except for one of my friends, she tells everyone just for attention)
but anyways
I wanna ask you this.
If you were cutting, would you want people to know?

Do you think such a deduction is implausible though?

Certainly. But I have no need for pity and coddling attention.

Okay, first off, you're saying hypothetically. With the intention to get people on edge who know what you're talking about. Just being a little bit of a smartass. Yeah that's not the greatest way to start off a debate. And like many people have said before. People have different tolerance levels. And about the reason for posting it here. It was to get advice on how to make it better. So there ya go. If I was doing a video for a grade I'd want to get the best grade possible. And this would be the first place I would look. And as for the justification in cutting? I would tell you my reason but you would just bully me and say I didn't ask for your life story you attention whore. So thank you for that.

No i dont think that because everyone is different and thats something we cant change, attention or no attention

Project Delta

it was not made for the intention of attention whoring END OF.

The reason i've made this video is because i dont care if people know anymore, seriously. I'm proud of the battle i've beaten.

This is basically continues from the other thread, and you can't make it any better by hiding it in ROTW.

It may be a debate, but considering we all know who this is about, and he does not want this issue to continue. So :locked:

If you want to debate cutting, please do so, but not aiming at members of vt. Thank you.
