Shorts on leggings

I was wondering what you all thought of wearing shorts on top of leggings?

I think it looks quite cool but i've heard some people think it looks "tacky" and "childish".

So, before i go out and buy shorts and leggings :P -
Are they childish?
Are they tacky?
Could i wear them and not get laughed at? :D

Depends where you are. Fashion is always appropriate or inappropriate depending on the setting of an event or situation. IF you want to go out partying, hitting the town with friends, or maybe school (assuming you don't have uniforms), it would be fine. But for places that require some more formal dress, it would be tacky and childish.

Yeah, umm... i probably would wear it to college, shopping or just sitting around the house. Im thinking maybe it would look too childish at college because there would be people older than myself so i'd like to dress maturely.

Tbh I think the whole wearing leggings under shorts/skirts thing looks awful.
And when the shorts/skirts are really short - it seems to say "I want to dress like a slut but don't have the confidence to pull it off"

I don't get the point honestly. If you want to wear shorts that look long wear jeans, it's harder to find shorts and leggings that match. If the clothes were to different ones, that might look tacky. Maybe you could try denim leggings and wear them with an oversized shirt, that always looks good.

really? i always thought that wearing a REAL short skirt with leggings was my way to say, "i love this skirt, but i'm not slutty enough to wear it alone" xD

xD That was more of what i was going for.

In the picture, i think those are like the jeans you get in topshop with the elastic waist. I saw a girl wearing them but the weren't too flattering on her waist but i think with shorts over they would look much better.

I dont know. It seems a lot of people dont like it. I dont want to draw attention to myself so i'll probably leave it.

Meh. i think it's quite tacky, and I don't have the confidence to pull *that* off (ever..) but if you want to theres no reason you can't

it depends what kind of shorts you pair them with.
if you take some grey leggings and some beige cargo hipster shorts, it would look good with a t-shirt. im you have some black or grey shorts, pair them with some white laced leggings and a light blouse. if you want to do the whole bright neon colors thing, use black shorts. but most of all, never use athletic shorts, that looks tacky.
