I think we should have a user profile status on our profiles - kind of like on facebook and twitter. It'd be great for interaction and an easier way to share our thoughts and feelings with everyone here.

what do you think?

I think we have that. More detailed please?

Ryhanna

like... umm A box on the top of our personal profile page where you write your thoughts, feelings, what your doing etc - other people might be able to reply to these. does that make sense?

True its not a social networking site. Its just an idea that I thought could be put to good use.

I was thinking about this and it might be a good idea. But there'd be a lot of emo statuses crying out for attention.

Oooo my life is awful ooo ahh abuse and cutting ooo ahh depression

No, it's shallow because he was mocking people who talk about their depression/abuse.

I don't like this idea
Has anyone seen some profiles where [some] people put "wanking" as their hobbies?
Well then the status box would be abused and then have a lot of obscene stuff it in probably =/

Exactly.
It's not worth the trouble.

I guess your right. oh well.
Who would use it anyway. most of the posts on here would be about crap anyway and it'd become like twitter. forget it

Hmmm...

If VT was more general discussion then maybe but really it's a help site.

I agree with ForeverYours. Alot of the users would abuse it and make this site alot more graphic. And it would need more mods to keep everyone under control.

That's shallow.
Is it shallow? Or is it the truth?

Every idea that allows the members to actually meddle with it by themselves (diaries, social groups, blogs, even posts) is molded by the habits* we have here, and content.

If we allow status updates on this site, I see it as a basin that will collect many negative posts, such as, as well-pointed out just a few posts earlier, obscene language, and probably "emotional" things, or things that just become a pity party rather than a helpful thing.
It also seems really, really inconvenient to moderate status updates. Even censoring words can fail.

I've changed my mind and I've decided to not support this idea.

* = the reason I've said habits is because I've seen the content in the puberty members' posts actually changed when I, myself, posted more and better. I mean seriously, everybody in the puberty forums started posting differently because at that time, I made such an impact on the content of the site with my own responses. Just recently I've seen you turn into a Sam-like poster, obviously following suit.

VirtualTeen, like a real teen, goes through phases, and I think having updates available would be inconvenient, often times inappropriate, and could go down the tube when people start using it in a different way than intended. I think that's a phase we want to avoid.

I'm not replying to the rest of your post, because I disagree but I don't think there's any point having a public argument over it.

Just to set this straight, that style of writing was something I tried out for a while but then gave up on :) I never had any intention of posting like Sam, if you were there on Skype it was because I was told by someone to be more friendly. :P

Sam-type writing?

Or...what?

imo, the misuse doesn't outweigh the benefits. a no from me.

Ryhanna
August 22nd, 2009, 06:03 AM
When you think about its probably worth more harm than good.
Pro it can help us help each other out more easily and ask questions to a direct group of people
Con it can be misused and will more than likely result in a few attacks on other users. I like the way the forum works. No hating, just kids helping each other out with problems and proving that we really arent that different.

Zephyr

As stated, it could lead to misuse.
Personally, I could care less if your balls itch, if you're horny or what have you.

If you want status updates, get a Twitter.
I don't ever want to see VT turn into a Twitter-like place.

This is not a social networking forum. No profile status pl0x.
