I have a friend who has been supposedly diagnosed with multiple personalities, and with all of the multitudes of opinions, I still don't know what's going on with this.
I believe that there is something wrong with him. I've always known him as Michael, but currently he calls himself James. He hasn't been called Michael since my good friend broke up with him, which is depressing but another story. He wears his glasses and speaks like he's an English professor. That doesn't sound like much, but the Michael I knew most definitely would NEVER wear his glasses, and NEVER speak proper English. From what I've been explained about it, James and Michael are the two main personalities "residing", but there are two others. Michael basically crawled into an emotional hole after he was dumped, and James is there until further notice.
It's just all so confusing, can I get some basics broken down for me?

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. That sounds tough!

I wanted to write this in my own words but have been busy today and haven't had the time. Sorry!

This site has good information set out in a clear way - it is not an exhaustive resource though

You may find it useful to read some stories from people living with DID/MPD.

I'm sorry your friend has to go thru this.

Realize that if he acts differently, or is mean to you or other friends, that he probably dosen't mean to be.

It's just so weird.
I get it... it's just so weird to think about.
I think it's better, because Michael or James said that they all talk to one another, so most of the time he knows what's going on... most of the time.
He's never mean, I actually think I enjoy James's company more than I do Michael's. Oops. I don't think I'm supposed to pick favorites, especially when they're all the same person.
I am horrible... haha.
