Not quite sure where this should go... But I'll put it here as the idea came to me from a book I got from counselling for my self harm.
"To help you think abouy your environment and your relationship to it, imagine your world as if it were your room or your home. Where you live, you probably know where you keep the thingsyou use to harm yourself. Sometimes they might be visible, at other times they might be somewhere out of reach but accessible. They may even mean leving them in the shops if you need them to be. Our tactics are all different, and again change with time. You may not be aware of your own, but if you have injured more than once you undoubtedly have them. Other people may want to take the implements away; think carefully before allowing this as being denied access to them might mean you do something worse e.g. use a dirty implement.
Some tactics might be:
Leave it in the shop in you feel at risk
Have it there but out of immediate reach
Having something to do with in sight at all times as a reminder not to do it
trying for something less harmful (e.g. drinking beer instead of spirits)
changing the harm to a different type (e.g. going shopping and damaging your bank balance)
The list is contradictory in places. This is no surprise - as there asre unique strategies for unique individuals.
We thought about here we were in our rooms, and the things we use to harm and to nurture. We drew our imagined rooms with the things around us."
The group that is writing the book then drew their 'rooms' and wrote about them over the next few pages. I think its a good idea as they also drew their ideal 'room'. As for something to work to. Here's my 'room' (re-drew on paint xD):965
My decribtion was: I'm in a bubble of slef-harm, with all the things I use. I have my laptop and music with me, they either help or make it worse.
My thoughts are written around the bubble.
Helpful things for me are furthest away, blocked by words and thoughts.
I know this post is kinda pointless, but I thought I'd share the idea. xD
