does it really work like it says that it does, without the crashing?

It's not the healthiest thing to drink. The amount of caffeine is actually not a lot but if you rarely have caffeine then you may get a crash. If you are used to caffeine then you won't.

However, it contains excessive amounts of Niacin, Vitamin B6 and Vitamin B12. By excessive I mean more than 100% times the daily value the daily value. The amount of Vitamin B6 and B12 is over 1,000% times the daily value.

So with that in mind, it overloads your system to a ridiculous amount. You'd probably get a "niacin flush" (you may become flushed in the skin and may also get a rash). The excessive Vitamin B6 can affect your nerve and muscle coordination, as can the excessive Vitamin B12 (among other possible things).

If you are to take it, don't take it often. If you take it often (i.e. daily) for some time then you're asking for trouble. But if you take just one bottle one day for some energy and don't take it for a few weeks, then that's better. So only take it on occasion.

I have used them a few times this summer when I have been really tired at work. I have never had the crashing. I have been able to go home and sleep like normal.

The vitamins just pass through your system and it makes your urine more orangish looking.

Hm, never noticed that.

But... not crashing? I think that's false advratizing.

Not really. The amount of caffeine is actually not too high, it really is about one cup of coffee. Of course the drink does contain other things that other energy drinks contain such as taurine, possibly ginseng, etc... . I haven't had one of these before but it may not list caffeine as an ingredient. Instead, it may list it as guanine (sp?). Technically, guanine only becomes caffeine once it reacts with HCl from your stomach.

But since the amount of caffeine isn't very high, you're not likely to get a caffeine crash. If you ever watch the commercials for them, you'll notice (and if you look on studies regarding 5-hour energy) that it doesn't have a lot of sugar nor caffeine. But that is all they say, they don't say on the commercials how much Niacin, Vitamin B6 and B12 it has (among other things) until you read some studies and articles on it. But even those articles do confirm that it doesn't have a lot of caffeine and so you won't get a caffeine crash.

If you pick up a bottle of 5-hour energy and a can of some other energy drink (i.e. Red Bull, Monster, Rockstar, Amp, etc...), you'll notice something in common aside from the ingredients: the warning on both of them saying not to drink more than 2 per day. That commonality in the warnings is what got me very suspicious until I dug up some online articles regarding 5-hour energy.

The flushing is true even on the five hour energy site it has a warning about the flushing and hotness.
