Okay, so you're basically worried abut his sexuality, right?

Well it seems like he's at the stage where he's trying to find himself. And you need to let him do that. It could be that he isn't straight, but just doesn't want to hurt you, or he really isn't sure. Maybe he is bisexual, or even gay. If he is, you'd still feel the same right? You just know that you'd be better off friends. You need to let him know that you'll be his friend, no matter what happens. And tell him that his happiness is important to you.

This is just a suggestion, but maybe this "love" is just there because you're afraid of losing him and you've become so used to having him around. Given enough time apart, you may find that it fades, becomes a different kind of love or even disappears...

I'm sorry to say this, but maybe you need some distance from each other. That way, he has time alone to think about his preference and even explore his sexuality. And you can really get in touch with your feelings, when you're not with him so much, helping you to understand how you really feel.
