They are both good suggestions and can be very useful in beating it before you get in too deep and in putting it off when you are in this vicious cycle.

This was actually reasonable advice, a lot of people find that doing something to distract them from feelings of self-harm helps. For example painting or drawing or reading.

sometimes people need more than just real help, its not like theres a cure.

Self harm isn't an objective act.
It is a coping mechanism and therefore is completely subjective.
Each person has their own limits as to what they can and can't cope with in adaptive and positive ways.
One persons mountain is anothers molehill.

i just keep myself busy by doing anything. taking care of pets, calling a close friend, texting someone you can trust, go outside, exercise, listen to music
