Sorry if you find this post annoying, i just need to get my feelings out. I really really can't stand the fact that i like cutting, i say no i don't and that i want to stop, but i still do it so i must like it. It's like my friend because i don't think it;s doing any harm to me really, i mean yeah a few scars but i'm not suicidal so if it makes me feel better at the time and i feel like i want to cut and should cut then whats wrong with it! ?

Help me understand. What is it about cutting that you like? How does it make you feel better?

For me cutting releases all the tention in side me, everything seems to go away. But i realised that after the night that you do it you wake up and feel like crap!!! You have to keep hiding away from the world and you really dont want to. In the summer you have to take all of your sweaters off to reveal scars and cuts everywhere. Everyone would stare at me and that made me want to do it more. I like to do it still but i think that you should stop, well at least cut down on it for the time being :)

Dude,i may understand you.correct me if im wrong-you like cutting because it relieves tension?but you KNOW its bad for you right?
I s.h too,i do crazy things to myself,sometimes i experiment!
Self harming/cutting allows you to feel the pain of your sorrows, its like a gateway towards forgiving myself for me.
But dude, try and cut it down, take up a hobby to occupy yourself,i.e painting and drawing,or writing stories (all those methods work for me,the may work for you)
Occupy yourself,or let all your feelings out by raging-kick,scream,shout,cry,punch,throw,whatever
Let it all out, without self harming.you may even enjoy it.
Personally i feel much better after ive screamed and shouted into thin air, shouting utter nonsense after i have let my feelings out.
Try it,i hope this helps.
Pm if you ever want to talk.
Good luck,byee

Heya,
What you are feeling is very common. Scars are a small price to pay for the sensation we get afterwards. In a weird way, i feel like im abandoning a friend by quitting. I thank self harm for my survival in the past but it all comes down to the fact that its wrong and not a healthy way to cope. We should protect ourselves, not harm ourselves. Its basic human instinct. Now, i dont know how long you have been self harming but im certain that the cuts are deeper than when you started. If not then i garauntee they will become more severe. Its certainly not easy but inorder to protect yourself in the future you need to stop now. Self injury increases depression and so suicidal thoughts become suicidal actions.
Until you find a better way to cope then you'll always turn back to self harm when you feel down. munkyduck mentioned good ways of coping. Try them out when you next feel the urge. Its a great fight but people get past this addiction. Im sure you can too =]

Wow, slow down there Girl. Look there is something wrong with you in the same way as if you had some illness. You're not bad, or wrong to like it. What you should do is
A. Ask your self why you want to cut,
B. See if you can stop that reason,
C. Try some things to relive whatever makes you feel like this.
If these don't work keep on trying untill you feel you don't need it anymore. :)

Rather than cutting less often, perhapps cutting one time less per-session over a number of weeks might help?
