I walked down Desperate Lane
At nine o'clock, so ashamed
I was just waiting for the rain,
Holding out hope that I'd escape the sting...

Of each drop across my forehead,
The burning of my whole,
The encumbrance of the nighttime air,
Dampened by the cloud's dark stare.

And just as I looked toward the sky,
Angled my head upward, aligned with the night,
The bright, white moon, the center of life,
In the cloudscape so high, high above my eyes,
Blinked at me slowly and started to cry...

It's tears fell from towering heights above me,
Landing on my skin, and slighting my hope,
Burning my shell, my escape from this hell,
My outer protection that keeps all things well
Even when life isn't swell or I feel ill...

The moon and the clouds, an alliance quite frightening
Roared and blazed, through thunder and lightning,
The moon grimaced strangely, but it's tears still dropped,
Each one hitting my face, tilted upward toward the center of the sky,
The center of life, the moon, so bright.

Drenched in sorrow and questioning life, I looked at the moon
Through inundated eyes, a persuasive dictation not allowing good sight,
And I held out some hope that the rain would just end,
And that thunder and lightning was all just pretend.

And just in that moment, holding out hope,
The sky opened up, despite the time and the scope,
The magnitude of the event not occurred,
Shattered the silence and my question was heard...

The thunder replied in the form of a boom,
That I should tilt my head back down, look forward and go,
Keep going and going until I reached home
That place where I'd feel, well, not so alone...
