Example: i like alternative a lot but my friends like rap and hip hop and evn country.

Yeah, I fairly often feel this way.

In fact, your example is usually my situation. I like Rock/Metal/Alternative, my friends like Rap/Country.

If someone ever comments on my music I just say its personal taste, if you don't like it, then don't listen.

Some people think I'm obsessed with my favorite band(Iron Maiden). But, I mean, my iPod has real music on it, unlike most people, so if they comment, I don't care because I believe my music is better, and what they think does not concern me.

I'm mostly into folk rock and quiet acousitcey stuff but I'm also really into Marilyn Manson, neither of which my friends care for. I drunk at my mates house the pther night and her TV had one of the video on demand things and I was annoying everyone by playing nothing but MM all night. :P

My music is different than some of theirs, yes. But I'd never be embarrassed about that.

My music taste is my own personal style. My friends and I definitely don't listen to the same things, and I'm always introducing new music to them. Some they like, some they don't.
Hell, I have two NSYNC songs on my iTunes just because they're good songs. I don't care how an artist is labeled, if it's a good song, I'm going to listen to it no matter what people think.

Be yourself. Life is too short to be what others want you to be. So long as you are not forcing your opinions onto others, they have no right to force theirs onto you

I listen to allot of music people have never heard of, and I want people to ask about them. I like getting people into the good stuff, not that alternative radio hipster same old shit.

well, i'm not exactly embarrassed because I love my music, but I have to explain some songs and why they're there most of the time. most of my friends are into big radio hits, while I look for artists that are far from mainstream in the US. I don't mind, because my playlist is my self expression. you can find out who I am from what I listen to, plain and simple. :D

Why would I feel embarassed? If they don't like my music, they know what I would say about it.

There are people who like hip hop on here, just not the regularly listened to part of it.

To be honest, I wouldn't. I'm not shamed for someone to look over the contents of my iPod or music folders. Most of the stuff I listen to are either old bands from the 70s/80s or are unheard of, so why bother?

I love love love Bon Jovi, yet all my friends except one don't really like them.

very few of my friends like rock so they always have to fuckin complain when they see it in my ipod... expect for when they see jimi hendrix, apparently he's ok because he's black, wtf?

then the other 80% of my music is either old school hip hop, underground rap or jazz, so then they complain that there's no lil wayne or jay-z or gucci man which is all mainstream garbage to me

...however there are a couple of my friends that are down with good music
