I think that members should be able to delete posts, as long as they were the ones that created it. Say I have a thread I started, and after I start it, I decide I don't want it on here anymore for whatever reason, I should be able to delete it. The same goes for posts in threads, if I answer a thread, and I decide I no longer want that answer in there, I should be able to delete it. The same goes for blog entries.

By doing that you will ahve giant gap and when people quote another person, it looks like they are refuting themselves or look like they are talking to them selves.

People will also abuse it. Someone will probably start an argument then delete the post to make it look like they are the victim.

I guess it would get abused.
There is an edit button, that can let a user delete an answer and replace it with a different answer, that too can also make a users look like they are talking to themselves, can't it?

Not really, a quote doesn't get deleted when someone quotes someone who decided to change their post.
And you can tell when someone edits their post becayse it says "last edited at [insert time and date here]."

I am on a forum that allows you to delete your posts, if you are the last person to post in that thread.
I think that's what should happen. Not being allowed to delete posts after someone has responded, but if no one has responded, you should be allowed.

Yes, I like that.

Someone could post something hateful and then take it back. There are possible routes for spam and abusing if we allow something like this. Plus why go to the trouble? This really doesn't happen that much, and if we allow it, people will probably bitch for more.
I stand by my post here (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showpost.php?p=561111&postcount=6).
Just report it and it will be dealt with.

There should be rules about it, BUT I COMPLETLY AGREE.
It should be done saftly, maybe we should get permission first? From a mod?

If there is a post that you really feel should be deleted then report it and give a reason.

As the admin of another site/forum I can safely say that as useful as it could be, it would get abused.

If you think before you post then you should never need to have something deleted. If you double post or something then report it.

It would be really abused. Someone would post something insulting, then delete it before a Mod could see it. And I you really want to get rid of something, just edit the post.

There is indeed the potential for abuse, but that is easily avoidable with some restrictions. Most forums I contribute to allow the deletion of posts, so I can't see it suddenly breaking anything.

Agreed. But I do understand why people would want to delete thier posts, like what was said, it would be abused.
