Geneva
Our story starts at a while before the great World War 2. In Brunswick Germany, in the district of Kleine Burg, there lived a beautiful woman named Geneva. Her husband, Klaus VonNevich was a general in the great new army of Hitler. She had little idea as to what their goal was. All she knew was, it was supposedly for ‘the betterment of humanity’. Whenever she asked her husband, he would say in a disconnected voice, “all in due time my dear.”.
In the next few weeks, he was a very quiet man, saying near nothing at dinner, or throughout the entire day. He was a man of a guilty conscience. After a particularly hostile argument, Geneva went for a walk in the brisk winter air to get away from the constantly lingering tension in the house. Whilst she was considering buying some coffee, she heard a collection of voices down the block, and quickened her pace to see what the disturbance was.
When she turned the corner, she saw an ominous concrete wall erected in the middle of the street. I was already stained from soot, despite being recently erected. It looked as if it was cold to the touch. She noticed her friend Irena, and slowly approached her. “Irena, do have any idea of what could be going on here?” she whispered. Before Irena could answer, an old woman came up next to them, wobbling on an old wooden cane. “bad things my dears bad things,” she said in her old voice, wavering with age.
A young man grabbed her by the shoulder, and led her away. Soldiers came up to shoo people off, all of them wearing a new uniform, and armbands with a pinwheel design. She was sent off down the block, and returned home. Upon entering the study, she found her husband, with red eyes, as if he had recently cried.
“Klaus dear, please tell me what is going on. I just saw a giant wall erected on the south side of town. You must have some idea of the situation.”
Klaus rose from his chair, and started to the hallway.
“Geneva my dear, do not press matters any further, its not your place.”
“but please, this is important….”
Before she could finish, Klaus swung around and struck her across the cheek. She touched it were it burned. “Geneva. Learn your place,” he said as he sulked down the hall way. Geneva knew that she wouldn’t give in, and she would find a solution.
