I believe this category is where my question should go.

Anyways, I was on Youtube, watching videos of people getting their wisdom teeth removed, and I started wondering why oral surgeons always cut around the tooth before they pull the tooth out.

I can understand this if the tooth is impacted into the bone or something similar, but if not, why cut the gum?

You have a link to the video? Couldn't even guess without seeing it.

But if I had to guess, I'd say it's cause it came in sideways, and he needs to get to the root.

Because most of the time, when wisdom teeth are being taken out, they're being taken out before they break through.

Also, teeth aren't meant to come out normally, so taking them out is a pain in the ass for the dentist. They're rooted in, so it's hard to pull the tiny bit that might be sticking out.
