When darkness comes

When darkness comes
and overwhelms your mind,
and urges drive you on
new pain to find,
pause for a moment, please, I pray,
such action will not make the darkness go away.

Dwell not on sadness,
for sadness comes to all,
seek thoughts of gladness,
try to halt your fall.
Hold back the sadness for a little while,
think of something that has made you smile.

For someone loves you
though you may deny,
they share your pain
enough to make them cry.
Speak to them, tell them what you feel,
then feel their care, feel the love is real.

Look if you must
upon the tempting blade,
but think of me
before the cut is made.
For even as you feel the edge's smart
the blade begins to twist inside my heart.

As the OP I believe I'm entitled to bump this. This was written for a particular person, they know who they are, and every word is still true. It holds good for other people too. I have two friends atm struggling with personal problems and fighting the urge to self harm. Keep up the fight guys, to both of you, and to the original person, I rededicate this poem.
