Kicking and slapping your children could be used as reasonable discipline by parents, according to one of the country's most senior judges.
...
"A kick sounds particularly unpleasant, yet many a parent may have nudged their child's nappied bottom with their foot in gentle play, without committing an assault."

Well a kick and a slap is pretty ambiguous and as the judge said, a gentle nudge could be considered a kick yet it isn't harmful in the slightest. Something like punting the kid 40 yards would be another story but when the judge said that they're reasonable, they also said that kicks and slaps vary in seriousness and a gentle nudge or light slap isn't too harsh.

My mom would give me a nudge but never kick me.
I think it's important part of discipline, but I wouldn't kick them.

I always found spanking to be more degrading than painful.

I think very slight physical punishment can be reasonable, if the parents just explain to the child why he got slapped(or something) and not just slap and let the kid be.

Im sorry but the is NO reason to ever slap or kick a child. There is a very easy way to punish a child from misbehaving its called time out. These 'parents' (idiots) should watch supernanny.

Slapping is fine at the right circumstance. Kicking seems a little extreme for some reason.

I see no problem with the judge's ruling.
Physical punishments are good when used alongside non-physical punishments.

Kicking...bad....
Slapping, I don't have a problem with that if it is necessary. But, you can't just physically punish someone without giving an explanation.

I got my bottom smacked when I was younger... It didn't hurt but made me stop.... I'm all for it as long as it's not extreme and the child is not too fragile.
