Ahead of me I stare
A road that leads to no end
Plain and simple
With only the sidewalk to protect me
A grey sky that has no clouds
Neutral weather that doesn’t phase
Not a house in sight
No twists or turns
My steps make no sound
The laughter of children I’ve long forgotten
My voice has died
I’ve no reason to speak
Nobody to hear it
I’ve walked this road for many of my ages
Bland as the simplest of colors
Excitement is no longer a felt emotion
Closeness left behind
Only one emotion left for me to feel
Longing…
I long to see…
One sign
One change
One person
Nothing…
I long to hear…
A voice
A song
A single note
Nothing…
I know what meets me at the end
Something I dread
A wall I won’t climb
I can’t climb…
There is nothing on the other side
A road that leads to no end
Plain and simple
With only the sidewalk to protect me
A grey sky that has no clouds
Neutral weather that doesn’t phase
Not a house in sight
No twists or turns
My steps make no sound
The laughter of children I’ve long forgotten
My voice has died
I’ve no reason to speak
