View Full Version : Gmods being blue

I can't read gmods usernames when they're blue...
It blends in with the default theme too much.
Change them to another colour?

Hmmm, nice idea. What about mellow yellow?
Donkey
July 29th, 2009, 09:54 AM
Wouldn't know up on lighter themes.
Perhaps a purple?

What about a pink since they are close to admins any way.

I can read them pretty good on the default board because they are a bit darker, and I actually like the way it is when the post around the forums it just fits in.

*didn't understand half that post*
But I, and several others, find them difficult to read.

Alright I'll just say it like this, I really don't see a need in changing it, it's been blue for years and no one else has complained about it and I think it's fine the way it is. You could always change the theme to another one if you find it that hard to read.

I'm really not sure what you're talking about. I just switched to forever blue (default) and reading the gmods names is pretty easy

Why should I have to? I should be able to read the names in all different themes.

I'm just saying that if it's that big of a problem changing themes would be your best bet. Personally I've never had a problem reading it and I like it blue.

Jon, most people don't have a problem with reading it on the site. As Thomas said, you could just change your theme to say, Black and Gold. When I used forever blue, there wasn't an issue so it might be caused by a low contrast ratio on your computer monitor causing a very close resemblance between the two colours.

YOURE NOT BRITISH! Stop doing that! :P
sry, back on topic lol
Also Jon, you can highlight the name so you can see it. That takes all of 2 seconds.

Woa. Fucking mental over colours. :P
Clearly everyone now hates Jon for stating his opinion. Blue just contrasts a bit..that's all. No biggie. It was only a suggestion remember. :)

Don't feel bad about it. I mean seriously this is a pretty small suggestion so it's ok if it gets rejected. Not all suggestions go through and it takes everyone contributing to improve the site! It takes all of the suggestions.

No.
Every time I've made a suggestion people have been negative about it. There's no "I can see it, but a new colour might be nice anyway if it's a problem for you" it's just "I can see it fine. It's just you."
@John "Also Jon, you can highlight the name so you can see it. That takes all of 2 seconds." - I already have to do that, sorry if I find it difficult to see colours.

Where I come from, in my school, in my community, every single person I've said something like that to... has understood what I meant.
When I say "Every time I've made a suggestion people have been negative about it." I don't mean it's personal to me, I just mean that lots of people are negative towards the threads. I would have worked that out instantly.

no I'm sorry but I think it's obvious that "every time I HAVE MADE A SUGGESTION" is different from EVERYBODY ELSE'S SUGGESTIONS.
One says "everybody hates my suggestions"
The other says "everybody is negative towards all suggestions"
Now you'd think that a good suggestion would take the test of criticism and win. That helps prove its justice.
Really this doesn't need to turn into a personal thing so just eff all of this noise.

Tone it down guys. Actually, just drop it or take it somewhere else.
To Jon: it's not like everyone hates all your suggestions just because they disagree, they just disagree for simple reasons, and believe different than you. Besides, just because things don't work out in one place, doesn't mean they won't in another.
Now, back on topic. I understand why you want this, and I wouldn't mind changing it to purple or a darker blue, the other colors just seem to much for such a little problem.

We're already past the fact that I wasn't talking about my suggestions in particular. And it's not a little problem. I can't read it. I can't read it on 3 different computers.

Right, I seen no problem with it however everyone has a right to voice there own opinion, if you disagree with an opinion or want to discuss anything apart from changing the colour of the gmods name colour please do it outwith this thread or it shall be locked.
My 2 cents are is, its been like that since when VT got VB and its worked since then so I see no real issue to change the colour,

Now that I had a chance to look at Patchy's name, I see what you mean by the color being dark. It's readable, but there are other colors that would be clearer. A dark yellow, maybe?
I'm all for changing the color, as long as the new color is easy to read.

i've always loved the blue (blues my fav colour <3)
and it depends what skin you use
there's many to choose from
Personally on the original skin (black and gold) they stick out VERY well

I dunno I just see it as a tradition for VT, the colours and faces have never really changed really.

Yeah I guess so, but we would all have to agree on one colour as a matter of keeping a uniform.
But I doubt things will change.

We only have four gmods. You could look at the length of their name or their avatar/signature in order to determine who they are.
Also, people keep suggesting yellow as the new color, but try reading this sentence in vBulletin style.

The dude has a point.
I don't see much of an issue, I mean its a blue name just so members can easily identify what level of staff someone is and if they aren't sure theres are personal message saying that then our face. I think it really isn't a big issue.

Exactly. Tradition shouldn't influence anyone's opinion. Sometimes change is best. The color is a little hard to read. Perhaps just changing it to a lighter blue, just a few shades lighter than it is now.

No.
The 'VT founders', i.e. Francis and Josh, have left. Also, they did not make these faces (maybe the Gmod face though).
To my knowledge people from GovTeen first made the faces. And GovTeen existed in 1999.
I agree with John.

No reason changing them as that would be weird, and obvously they work quite well already.
