View Full Version : Should the Government encourage Masturbation?

lol. Firstly, I know this sounds like a weird question, but I never seem to see masturbation listed as a self-therapy for things like stress and depression (except when masturbation itself is researched). I'll admit, it did actually help me, and it helped many others throughout it. It's not really encouraged to teens at all from my understanding.

According to that, though, it promotes underage sex/unsafe sex. Whatever, lol. I disagree.

Yeah it would be awesome if the government encouraged masturbation. And by doing this, it could also lead the way for more successful gay and lesbian rights movements ... it's pretty obvious that it'll lead to many chain reaction movements. It would help to make our society less homophobic. (Masturbation is publicly viewed as "homo" with most of our ignorant public)

I think it does the opposite. Either way, its not the governments place unless the people wanted to unite on something. Also, masturbation is a private thing and should remain that way. I don't think this thread will be taken very seriously...

I really don't think they have to. Most teens will do it anyways.

lol I'm half serious about it. There's nothing wrong with encouragement. It's not like forcing you to do it, but if encouraged, it could make some people feel less dirty about it as well.
And what do you mean it does the opposite?

I think the government should stay out of people's personal lives.

Why should what we do in our bedroom matter to the government?

Meh, maybe "government" was the wrong word. But health services and such. My point being that masturbation should be encouraged as a form of relief.

No, masturbation is between you and you alone. I would not want people telling me to go wank if i feel stressful I'll do it when i get ready too on my own time.

I think this is pretty unnecessary. Anyone who wants to masturbate is going to masturbate- You're not gonna wake up some morning and hear it from a government agent or health official and be all, "Durr, I never thought of that!!"
I mean, why not have the government reccomend eating food as a solution to hunger? That's pretty damned brilliant too if you ask me.

Not neccesarily, not all teenagers masturbate, and some even view it as dirty because of the stigmatization surrounding it. Some don't realize that's a good mind therapy.

Deschain/Tim:
Maybe the fact that some people don't know the correlation between masturbation and relief? And that it's not as common knowledge as the food/hunger correlation?

Haha. This is the last thing I'd expect you to ask, Chris. But it's way too personal. If they want to encourage it, fine. But I don't want to be bothered about my personal life.

Hahaha. Truth be told, it came out different than I expected. Everyone's took it as the Government telling them to masturbate, and I suppose my title came out wrong... ugh.
And Chris, don't lie, you'd love to have some old politician forcing you to masturbate! :)

Oh yes.
That's my fantasy. :)
But truth be told, it is a great way to relieve stress.
But I think it would be inappropriate to advertise it.

Finally, somebody is getting what I mean!
And yeah, I guess, but it works wonders. Just like going for a jog or swim does.

Yeah, of course.
But masturbation isn't always an option.
So a nice jog would be my first choice.

Just do it yourself I think
I guess it could be a little more accepted. But religious folk will get pissed if it was encouraged by someone so official.

Because after a tough day you don't want to just go back outside and do something a bit strenuous, you just want to relax at home.

Religious people are against condoms and abortions, but they still happen. Lol.
I don't see why it's so taboo.

They should not encourage or discourage things like sex, masturbation , drugs etc.
They should offer non biased information with no pro/con spin about it and leave it at that.

well with some infections masterbation is promoted like that thing where your penis foreskin hardens the docter will actually recomend that you do it
and it certainly would be a better thing than giving patients pot as a way to deal with their stress

Yes, because kids talk about it all the time, why not give them the right information?

Now an attmept to have a serious repsonce. Why should our government be encouraghing such habits?
I've heard of DOCTORS incouraging sex because apparently you live longer(yeahhh i'm not buying that but ok) but our government doesn't have doctor degrees

No, the government should stay out of the personal lives of its citizens. However, I would not protest if doctors recommended it to people with depression.

condom use is not taught in my school(s), so religion has affected the government enough for them to teach abstinence instead of condom use.
And as abortions go that topic is so all over the place its just wow.

I think that teenagers should know the full truth; not a warped, religious version of it. Teenage pregnancy is a problem and only telling them to not have sex at such an age is a rather pathetic 'solution'. Teenagers should be aware of the effects of masturbation but by no means should it be advertised let alone brought out of sex-education. The government should not get involved.

I see no reason why not to. I don't think it is any place to make a law that you have to masturbate of course, but why can't the Surgeon General endorse masturbation as a safer and much healthier activity than more dangerous sex in terms of pregnancy and STDs. Speaking of STD prevention and AIDS, lesbian sex is the way to go. Can you imagine? "Surgeon General promotes lesbian sex."
Oh wait, now I remember... This is a good link to tell you what happens to the surgeon general when that happens. (http://www.actupny.org/reports/elders.html)
