I think I read something or other about it. Is it in the forums, and if so, where?

Or do I just have a good imagination and there aren't any VT Awards?

The VT Awards happen once a year towards the end. Not sure the exact dating or whatever but yes we do have them.

It is just a stupid popularity contest so why worry about the awards.

No it's not, it's something that's suppose to be fun and recognize some of the contributions made to the site.

I actually agree with both of these.

It is a bit of fun for everyone.
But then again I guess it could definitely lead to jealousy and may leave some people offended and upset.

I'll be pretty straight out with this,
if you are the type offended who takes this seriously i don't think you are a very smart person.

just my opinion.

I second that.

I just think the people who would get offended would probably cause drama and shit.

the awards are never taken seriously, they have always been fun and it brings the community together quite nicely

Eh, I can't help but agree. The awards are always given to the mods or high posters. They deserve the awards, but you have to know the right people to get the award. If you're not popular with the staff, chances are you won't get the award. But it's all for fun, so no one really cares.

That's not true at all, members vote, so being friendly with the staff has nothing to do with it.

True, but being friends with the staff makes you popular and well known. That's what influences votes. You're right in the sense that it doesn't have to be friends with the staff, but it does make the other members think more highly of you, which makes them want to vote for you.

Not really being friendly with staff doesn't mean you'll be popular with members, I mean theres a lot more members than staff, if anything if your more friendly with members you could get more votes, however if I recall correctly there is not a most popular member reward. Yes you could get mates to vote for you however a VT award doesn't mean you win anything, just a recognition for being helpful or funny.

The members outnumber the staff by a long shot. I agree with you there. But if you look back at the results, the people who win are the ones who are staff or became staff in the near future. This is mostly because of their high post count, which causes them to become more popular in the community. I also agree that awards don't mean much. It probably feels rewarding to receive them, but it doesn't matter if you don't.

I agree. However no, it is not post count. Look at me. Never ever been a mod, probably never ever will just cuz of my personality. The post count thing is not always true.
Neither is people being here long. People who become staff members are generally liked by everyone, may or may not be very active in the forums they're picked for, have only been here a year or so, and win VT awards. Sure that doesn't apply to all but there is a trend.

I think it depends, if you are not very friendly, or not very welcoming, you probably wont get the "popularity" award, if there was one.
but then maybe not, i dont have to like you to vote for you lets say in the best debater. If i think someone is a good debater i will vote for them.

At least in my book, i vote for those who deserve it, not because i like them more.

Completely incorrect.

The friend base that many more experienced members have is too small to win in a contest. Usually, everyone votes and it really is a toss up.

Yes, you have to be "popular" and people have to percieve you a certain way in order for you to win the award.

Just because your friends with an admin, gmod, and mod (oh my) doesn't mean you will win jack squat.

I like the awards (just curious ftw this year :P)

Actually, I've an idea for awards that everone can have. If they login on a certain date, such as January 1st, 2010, then they'll receive the 2010 New Year award or some thing. And if, for example, they get that for 3 years, they get the Ultimate New Year Member award,

All just examples, or maybe, if your post count reaches over 1,000 you get a Constant Poster award.

no i think we get enough of that post count stuff. It already gets posted in the shoutbox, someone may post a thread, and of course the obvious face change.

I don't really like your idea, sorry NeoKitai

Good God, I feel out of place in this thread. All these 1,000- or more posters, and then there's me.

I didn't know about the VT awards before this, they sound like fun.

PS: Matt, I got you beat in the n00b competition.
