Some how i stumbled across this website and for the hell of it i decided to look into this forum. As I suspected i found numerous posts on the topic of cannibis (marijuana) stating false and ignorant information.
Stop spreading all of this fictional bullshit to young kids and do some actual research. Cannibas is not physically addicting due to the lack of an addicting substance. Cannibas has never been the cause of a single death and it does not kill brain cells nor does it lower your level of concentration or motivation after the high. There was a test years ago in which they administered some ridiculous amount of weed to monkeys and determined that marijuana causes brain damage. What they don't tell you is that those monkeys had masked strapped to there mouths and could inhale nothing but cannibas smoke, thus killing braincells due to the lack of oxygen. Cannibis also has never been the cause of any single form of cancer nor does it deplete sperm count, lower sexual stamina, or any of the other bullshit that you hear.
However I won't sit here and tell you smoking weed has absolutely no harmful effects. Inhaling hot plant matter damages your respitory system in multiple ways and in some individuals can cause mental problems occuring during the high, such as paranoia.
I barely touched the surface of the topic however i advice all of you to look into the documentary titled The Union, and to utilize google and do some research of your own.
I'm 16 years old, I've been smoking bud since I began 7th grade and hold a solid 3.3 gpa. I simply cannot stand ignorant uneducated people brainwashing the youth of today with all of this fucking garbage. Thank You.

Marijuana is addictive. Cannabis has killed a one person, because a big load of marijuana fell on him and he died(lol). Not sure about brain damages, but it does reduce your concentration/motivation level after marijuana high. I was slow for a day after marijuana high. Cannabis can cause lung cancer, if smoked and it can reduce your sperm count and cause impotence.

Its the internet, not just this forum which will have both useful and useless information on it.
Please link sources to medical claims in your post, it helps you look more credible than an angry kid. Also I doubt anyone cares about your own personal influences as the extent of the affect of cannabis will vary from person to person.

It is harmful and psychologically addictive.
And, yes it can leave you feeling unmotivated afterward.

Its a non-addictive drug... its use is just habituating, someone may smoke weed for a year then not smoke at all and there may be subtle differences but not much at all. I have seen the Union: the business behind getting high as well, it is a very informative documentary with highly credible people being interviewed so dont just flame this kid for leaving this post, he is right, weed doesnt kill brain cells, and there was one study which suggested that it actually may help with brain cell growth, there are no reported cases of brown lung syndrome, smokers cough or anything from smoking weed, and the people that say they get lazy or lose there job will lose it anyway just because that is there own personality, as joe rogan said weed is as harmful as you want to make it, i can stab a fork in my eye should we outlaw forks? i can jump off a bridge should they be against the law too? lets nerf the world...

I agree.
I think it's addictive, honestly.

ACTUALLY, he is right.
I really don't liek to argue this matter because people are set into believing what they believe.
I didn't learn this out of the internet, there was a documentary i saw IN SCHOOL.
So nothing new to me.

This addiction is a psychological one, not a physical one. I've seen people get addicted to this first hand so don't try telling me that you can't get addicted to it.
These people lost their motivation to do anything other than getting high and getting pissed as well.

there are no reported cases of brown lung syndrome, smokers cough or anything from smoking weed
Actually, smoking ANYTHING can cause lung cancer and cannabis actually contains higher amounts of tar than tobacco, plus people almost always smoke it unfiltered which increases the amount of carcinogenic material that one inhales.

It DOES indeed contain more 'tar' than tobacco smoke.
However, the tar from Marijuana smoke is able to be absorbed into the lungs (And thus the blood stream), causing no significant damage.

I'm not sure where you got that from. As far as I know, ANY tar is a carginogen. Don't get me wrong, I'm a cigarette smoker and am usually the first to deny the dangers of things but I'm not sure that's completely true.

THC is not addictive in itself, the high you get from it is what most people find addictive.
Kinda like chocolate. You don't care what brand it is, you just love and desire that taste of chocolate. Kinda.

Actually, since no one has ever reported a case of lung cancer from over 10,000 years of known cannabis use, i believe it doesn't cause cancer, and in the last few centuries of cigarette and tobacco use, there have been hundreds of thousands of deaths directly from tobacco use, so we can obviously see which drug causes more harm. sure inhaling heated plant matter can cause some damage but nothing that will have any lasting effects. Also if you didn't know, tobacco is grown with radioactive fertilizer which really causes cancer, and there is no radioactivity in cannabis or marijuana so that means no cancer

Okay, well thats great youve been smoking pot since you were like 12. Yay!
:what:
This has good info I think: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Is_marijuana_addictive
Now on this forum, there are some posts that have false information and some that don't. You can't generalize that all people take the false info because it is usually refuted.
Okay, marijuana may not be "addictive" in the sense that your body absolutely can't function without it. However, it is "addictive" in the sense that craves it and it detracts from your ability...to kinda...think properly while craving it. Also, I think it is "addictive" in the sense that people get into a regular cycle of use sometimes and don't want to move from that cycle.
Okay, cannabis/marijuana whatever may not have been the cause of a death single-handedly but its use obviously inhibits bodily functions and the truth is, you can do something stupid while under the influence and kill yourself or someone else.
Thats just like a drunk driver. The alcohol didn't necessarily kill them. Its the effects that the alcohol had on them.
As for the next part, I have heard many personal stories where basically, a person, that was smart and had a ton of potential let their life slip away after almost daily pot use. They basically use their money for pot and live on the streets. They are also dumber than a box of rocks. So you can't say that it doesn't affect people in that sense because out of all the users, it has bound to take an effect of this kind on people.
It'd be nice if you can link us to this test, otherwise, I am not going to use it as...genuine evidence that marijuana doesnt kill braincells. However, it is widely accepted that it doesn't. But nearly everyhting these days kills them so either the marijuana or the stuff laced with it, does something.
I don't think it depletes sperm count or reduces sexual drive either, so I am with you on that one. As far as cancer, you don't think that by inhaling thick smoke into your lungs it won't have any effect????? Umm no.
Umm, I don't really care if people use marijuna. I am against it being legalized. I don't think people should use it if it's illegal because it was made illegal for a reason. I don't care what you do in your personal time as long as you don't use my tax dollars and you don't affect me.
Marijuana does have some harmful effects. Don't think its harmless. Use at your own descretion...knowing full well the effects and such. Don't be stupid. And for god's sake, don't let peer pressure influence you.

A study which suggests marijuana encourages the growth of new brain cells:
http://www.peak.sfu.ca/the-peak/2005-3/issue9/ne-mj.html
And a few words taken from drugpolicy.org about myths and facts:
Myth: Marijuana Kills Brain Cells. Used over time, marijuana permanently alters brain structure and function, causing memory loss, cognitive impairment, personality deterioration, and reduced productivity.
Fact: None of the medical tests currently used to detect brain damage in humans have found harm from marijuana, even from long term high-dose use. An early study reported brain damage in rhesus monkeys after six months exposure to high concentrations of marijuana smoke. In a recent, more carefully conducted study, researchers found no evidence of brain abnormality in monkeys that were forced to inhale the equivalent of four to five marijuana cigarettes every day for a year. The claim that marijuana kills brain cells is based on a speculative report dating back a quarter of a century that has never been supported by any scientific study.

soooo..... your advice is to not listen to the crap you hear on the Internet, and listen to film documentaries....
Why?
...because they're a far more accurate source of non-partizan information?
Are you &#$%ing kidding me!?
I'm all for independant research, but while you're up there on you high-horse, secure in the knowledge that your views are correct because you saw a documentary that said they were.... you might wanna think about taking your own advice and reading the studies yourself, instead of relying on people telling you what only -some- of the studies have to say.

My views are backed up by many articles read, presentations listened to, experiences shared, and logical thoughts that I have shared with myself.
People either hear the same thing all over the place (both sides, for and against addictive marijuana) or they just assume their own sides and then use some catchy wording to get their point across.

I know my facts about weed but i'm not going to argue those,
i'll just say weed is different for everyone that smokes it,
some it works with, some against.
Me personally weed isn't something holding me down in life,
It calms my anxiety better than my meds do, with no side effects, except getting burned out sometimes, it helps me eat because for the last couple months i've been getting nausea when trying to eat, and calms my ADHD tendencies.
so i'm going to keep smoking pot, legal (preferably) or illegal.
But thats just me.
