I'm going to be a freshman but I think I've found a field that I want to stay with. Is paleontology a wide field? I would hate to go into to it and find out all the other people dug everything else up. The pay sucks going in but after staying with it the pay looks good. Should I think of something else?

i dont think that everything will be dug up by the time you make a proffesion out of it also you dont nececarily have to make it your job just keep your mind open and stick with what you want.
(sorry if this dosent help i dont know much about the subject XD)

Yes you should think of some back-up plans in case you change your mind later or in case you find there isn't a large job demand. Paleontology does include other fields, although it's usually a "make-or-break", that is, if you don't find a major discovery, then unless you're a professor or research with a doctorate, the pay isn't terribly great.

There are a great many career paths that seem prestigious, but that will lead nowhere fast unless you're a professor, or know how to shmooze grant money from people... or both. I think this is definately one of them!
Your concern shouldn't be "will there be anything left to find by the time I enter the work force" but rather "how long do I want to spend in school?" 'Cause, seriously bro, if you wanna be ANY kind of scientist, you're looking at at least six years after highschool... maybe eight!
There isn't a lot of work for paleontologists outside of acedemia... or, really... any.
Start learnin' your shmoozin' ! :D
