Sadly: read.
Warner Bros. is on the verge of launching another fantasy franchise that has the potential of becoming as successful as its Harry Potter and Batman blockbusters. Today’s (Wednesday) New York Times says that it will co-finance and distribute Legendary Pictures’ film version of World of Warcraft, based on the most heavily played multiplayer online game. (There are more than 11 million monthly subscribers.) Moreover, Legendary has signed director Sam Raimi, who helmed the three Spider-Man movies and is currently working on the fourth -- to direct the first film, which Warner said that it plans to release theatrically in 2012. Production of World of Warcraft is expected to begin after Raimi finishes work on Spider-Man 4.

This is old news.
And, also, I know not many really know much about WoW here.
THe game itself is highly looked down upon because of how addictive it is. (Though if it's that addictive, how is it a bad game???)
The lore behind the whole warcraft series is incredible, though. And this movie isn't even based upon the game iself, it takes place a year before the game.
So all of you haters, the whole story can actually match up to any fantasy series. I'd suggest you go read some of the Warcraft books before you post any more.

Didn't he do "The Grudge"?

It's not really a bad game but it's like you don't have any freedom to really express what you want your character to be. That's why I prefer City Of Heroes, customize costumes, powers, and just about anything including missions now. That would be a bad ass movie especially if they combined it with City of Villains.

....how does that change what the movie would be like in any way?

I believe the movie is war-oriented... and unfortunately filmed from the Alliance's point of view... but apparently we will see a lot of characters we know and love (Thrall, Jaina, etc?)
Ah freak, I'll just quote from WoWWiki:
As such, the movie is set one year before World of Warcraft and will primarily told from the Alliance's POV, though Metzen says his heart lies with the Horde.. Characters such as Cairne Bloodhoof, Thrall, Sylvanas Windrunner, and Bolvar Fordragon are likely to make appearances. Arthas is unlikely to appear
It sounds pretty darn interesting. Though lack of Arthas makes me sad.

I prefer originality over repetition and the movie doesn't seem like it'll be any different than having groups of people who look just a like fighting another group of people who look just alike.

Read my above post, which I just edited, but that's not what the movie is going to be. The movie is going to be based around the war that the Alliance and Horde have undertaken.
Which means epic large scale battles. Conflict. Etc.

I probably just need to learn more about it so i can pass a more educated judgement on what i think the film will be about.

Yes, you most likely should, though I will say that there aren't 11 million people playing WoW for no good reason.
Piece of concept art from the film I found:

People who've never seen WoW, stop posting. The game is great no matter how addictive it is and the movie will be also great. And this news is like more than a year old...
Anyone who wants to read about wow lore, which is great btw, and there are tons and tons of it, go on www.wowwiki.com .

Sorry, but it won't. Club Penguin is fail enough already without another film to fail with it. Besides, now that Disney own CP they're already raking in the profits from horny teenagers doing the dirty over Hanna Montana.

Sooo.....is the game taking place 1 year before WoW the mmropg or 1 year before Warcraft the RTS???
And to all those people dissing WoW, yes it is addictive to a dangerous level (people killing themselves because their membership expired), but it is actually a fun game to play even as a low level. I have tried the trial version several times and i get thrilled to play as almost every species.
However, the movie just might be overkill.
