Penciled in on petrified paper,
The daughter of a god stricken from the heavens,
Comes to life.

It's a story
In the eyes of a non-believer,
But it's so much more
To the ears of the dedicated soldier.

It's a sound
And a vision,
At the same time,
And it's real,
But, when necessary,
Fake.

It's a picture,
And a realization.
It's a destiny,
But it hurts,
Though sometimes
It doesn't.

It's like a jolt in the ribs,
It gets you up and about,
It makes the necessary
The complete, but though
It moves you one step closer
Toward the top of the golden staircase,
It makes you realize
That maybe where you're headed,
And were you're destined to be
Are two completely different places.

But then again,
It's just a jolt in the ribs.
