View Full Version : Waxing for guys?

I just turned 15 and started puberty pretty early. When I was 12 I had a happy trail, and started growing hair around my nipples and above my navel at 13 followed by hair in the center of my chest at 14. Well now it's growing EVERYWHERE (my body hair is dark despite the fact I have light hair) and even my leg and arm hair is getting really dark. For awhile, shaving wasn't a problem but lately it's becoming a real pain because I have to shave most of my chest every 3 days....and the area I have to shave becomes wider all the time.
My question is: do any of you guys wax or know other guys that wax in their mid-teens??? Also is it worth it???

It's like that because you shave, dude.
Shaving supposedly makes your hair grow back thicker, and longer then it normally would.

Hair does not actually get thicker when you shave it. That is a common misconception. It happens because when you start shaving during puberty, the rate of hair growth is already speeding up, so it seems like it is growing thicker right when you started shaving.
In any case, you can do whatever you want with your hair, and I have heard of guys waxing, so if you want to, give it a go.

You can wax or shave it.
The further along you get into puberty you hair will become thicker and more hair will grow. Your rate of hair growth will not change though.
Wax will keep you smoother longer. The only way to get rid of the body hair if you don't want it is to have it removed by laser but I don't think you can do that until you are 18. You could also use other hair removal products if you don't want to shave all the time.
Have you considered getting a body groomer to shave with. They are designed to shave your body hair below your neck. They do a nice job and it is a lot less effort than shaving every 3 days to keep your self smooth.

One of the things we hear alot about is the stress of being a 'late bloomer' and the insecurity that goes with feeling you're behind. You're reminding us that 'early bloomers' have their own stress, too.
If you wax, it stays smooth longer. If your body hair bothers you, you might do it. You should feel Ok about yourself, and if there's something out there that will last longer, you might want to look into it.
As most have said, shaving (or waxing) has no effect on hair thickness or speed of growth. It's a purely cosmetic thing.

True above three posters.
But be careful waxing yourself. I know a stylist who does waxing ALL THE TIME and shes said someone has done the waxing themself, and burned themself pretty badly. Be careful if you do decide to wax.

I wouldn't even dream about it but obviously you need to do what you want to do.

I had to wax my eyebrows once. They looked like Demi Moore's bush... But it doesn't hurt after the first time

Waxing is painful. No need to shave that often, hair can't hurt you and some girls/guys like allot of hair, like me (on a dude of course).

It's your choice. If you want to wax, wax. I imagine it would be a lot less painful than shaving.
