US scientists have been forced to deny that the military robots they are working on will feed on the dead bodies of humans.

Following a string of negative headlines that labelled the military machine "creepy" and a "corpse eater", the inventors went public to defend the robots, which power themselves by consuming plants and other biological matter.

The Energetically Autonomous Tactical Robot – known as Eatr for short – does indeed fuel its "biomass engine" by digesting organic material, but it was not intended to munch its way through battlefields of fallen soldiers, Harry Schoell, the chief executive of Cyclone Power Technologies, said.

should they spend that money on designing a better gun at least?

"We completely understand the public's concern about futuristic robots feeding on the human population"

That had me in pieces. :P

I hate the idea of robots of any kind fighting our wars period
its not a video game
nor should it be treated as such

more advanced weaponry and armor sure
a robot that kills people and chows down on leaves

Well, seeing as how we have robots to help build automobiles and various goods, I guess it is inevitable to get something like this. Although I'm not sure why the military would have robots to feed off of organic matter. Wouldn't the money and effort be better spent on finding something to beat the enemy with as opposed to build something that if the enemy is too slow, they'll get munched up?

Do not be surprised at all that the United States government would waste money on this, see there is no limit to the national debt so if it sounds cool and it can be used to kill things it will be made, but may never be used.

This robot sounds cool and horrible all at once. It won't pollute, but it eats plants, only one problem if they any plans at all to use it in Iraq or Afghanistan good luck finding plants in a desert. The ambulance part sounds good sense medics don't have to be sent into lines of fire, but it would be a scary medic, i mean you got shot and this thing comes up to you and drags you away. Then its arm turns into a saw. But then it needs to eat a tree then it drives away. We'll see how this turns out later on but i wouldn't be surprised to hear its canceled or never makes a production line.

I think they should take that technology and apply it to modern vehicles. (The organic fuel part) :)

"Yeah i'm gonna be coming in late today, the car needs to eat some plants first."

It would work after time as long as it does not have the limits of electric cars, and the hippies would still complain about it eating all the trees.

ya i think they should invest in making nukes smaller
a tiny clean reactor that can run for decades
pop that in a UCAV or something
and if the enemy corners it have a self destruct option
and abra kadabra no more enemy

ahhh killing people
good times
