background info:
i'm 18 years old, a girl, and christian. i work for a kids summer program
called greenshack which is located around various playgrounds in the city,
which is run by the city. i have 60 other co-workers ages 18-25 and 4
supervisors age 21. I can't swim and i don't drink. i don't drive
yet.
the problem:
all of us playground workers are split into 4 coordinator groups, in which
we have one specific supervisor as our coordinator. my group decided to go
on a camping trip at the end of the summer, the 2nd week of august. which
sounds really cool to me. i don't have much experience camping, i've gone
camping 3 times in the last 4-5 years. two times was with me youth group,
and the other was with half those leaders and their friends separate from
my youth group. i don't drink as in alcohol, i just don't think its smart. the bible
doesn't say you can't drink it just says not to get drunk, but i just
rather not drink so i don't get tempted or whatever. so i don't have a big
problem with people drinking, it's when they are drunk when i get upset with their choice but ya,
i'm not too judgmental.
now we also decided to invite all the other groups as well, so that's about
64 people. going on this camping trip. we can only have 20 tents in the
group site we will be at. and there will be alcohol. that's a given fact.
also we are going swimming which is awesome, swimming is fun although i
don't know how, it's not a big deal though.
k well we were trying to figure out if we should be allowed to invited our
friends. im not completely sure if we all can or if only my group can. but
if we are most people are bringing their bf/gf, I'm not dating anyone at the
moment and i'm absolutely cool with that, so i was thinking of 2 friends i could bring.
my best friend (Ashley) or my other good friend (Brad, not my
boyfriend).
best friend Ashley:
she is 16, outgoing would fit in i think, and knows at least 2 other people
going.she is also christian, but i do know that she has drank alcohol a bunch of
times in junior high and doesn't know i know. she has 2 sides to her
personality and well the christian side, and the side that wants to fit in
at school.but i think she hasn't had a drink for at least 9 months now
which i am proud of her for. i think bringing her might put her in a
difficult situation, and i would feel responsible for anything since i'd be
the one inviting her. also i'm worried she or even I might give in to peer pressure
considering it will be with at least 64 other adults. also she kinda
sometimes tends to just leave you and go hang with someone she knows, and
that kinda sucks.she can swim smile.gif. there is no problem for us to be in the
same tent cause we are girls. we'd have to get a ride with someone to the
camp site. she has loads of camping experience. will be a little upset if i
take my other friend. i'd feel less comfortable bringing Ashley, but ya i don't know.
close friend Brad:
he's 18 turns 19, 2 days before the trip. shy like me, and a little
strange. he is also christian. he likes me a lot and asked me out, i said no, he's waiting till
i'm ready to go out with him but i don't know if i want to. anyway he use
to drink just once in a while, but he says he stopped cause he doesn't want
to disappoint me or something, weird but sweet. he wouldn't cave into the
pressure to drink easily, i'm pretty sure, he's just kinda like that
especially around people he doesn't know, and i think it will be a help to me
cause then i'll be less likely to not cave in too. he would never leave me
hanging around even if he knew someone there. he can swim smile.gif. the only
thing i would not approve of us staying in the same tent, neither would he,
so that would take some arranging, most likely my supervisor will look at
me weird, but im sure she'll understand but it might be a hassle. he might
be able to drive out there so we wouldn't have to depend on someone else.
he has plenty of camping experience. he can take care of himself, so I wont
feel responsible for anything. he would understand if i take my best
friend. i'm comfortable with bringing him cause there is less to worry about, but
still i'm not sure if he is the right decision.
the tents are going to be co-ed sadly and only 20 tents can fit. so not sure who
i want to bring. our supervisors are setting up tents groups according to
who has tents, i don't have a tent, nor my best friend, but Brad does. so if you have any ideas or advice of who i should
would be very appreciated.
that would be helpful.
