Should Wales and Scotland have independence from the UK :?:
No because it would be bad for the, Welsh and Scottish economy and only a minority want it.

well i am neither Scottish or Welsh but i believe they are on the way to independance with devolution. they both have their own parliments, and are gaining more and more power themselves.

i think every country should have independence from a ruling country...if its a issue of finaces and plans and the people like being rules by another country then its fine but i think these two countries would be better off independent

wtf. they would be worse off, taxes would go up in both countries, trade would be cut off, income would go down, everything would be horrid if that happend. the welsh and the scotish are ajacent to england so its not like there miles and miles apart. each country enjoys democratic rule, and if they broke off, it would make them smaller, weaker, and poorer, its NOT a good idea.

well u see if they did say in time to come become totally independant they woudl more than likey become part of the EU, which has varios amounts of tax harmonastion, trade wouldnt be a problem as the EU total free trade, with no internal boundries.

however i dont see Scotland or Wales becoming totally independant. all they have reallly is partial control, kind of like local government kind of thing. Westminister could in theory abolish both parliments and impose direct rule again, like wat happened with Northen Ireland.

Without Wales the British aren't British. Which is actually the sloagan used to stop the independance movement in Wales. The Britons were dislocated by the Anglo-saxon invasions and ended up in wales.

Scotland controls the throne, since James VI of Scotland became James I of England the monarchy has been united. They would have to give up their Monarch to be independent, and without the monarchy chaos alone reigns.

Beyond that, both countries still need briton for security and economic prosparity. England remains a Great Power without Scotland and Wales, but Scotland and Wales become bit players in Europe and the World.

i think they just want to be seperate from England. like have a nice clear distinction because they were historically seperate countries at some point.

(again this would be a nice time for Lloyd and Lynne to interject!:P)

Everyone knows how proud I am to be welsh but independance is a joke. there's only 3 million of us.
we wouldn't be able to survive economically, neither would scotland. We and scotland were independant countries hundreds of years ago but england wasn't having that anymore so invaded us.
History lesson over

We do have our own government building, in fact they've just opened the new one on 1st March. They control things like funding for education, local councils etc. but most of Wales and Scotland is controlled by London.

It'd be sad to see the british isles divided and koler is right. Why would we want to be independant? We're not being persecuted or anything. Saying that, i'd call myself welsh rather than british but to me, independance makes as much sense as Illinois becoming independant from the US.

I wouldn't rule it out, it'll probably happen in the future because as someone said, our parliaments are gaining more and more power but not for a few hundred years.

there may only be 3 million, but thats enough, heck Ireland only broke the 4 million mark last year.

but there is no reason for them to leave the UK. And it would only do more harm then good.
