So, I was busy taking a gander at the tv a few days ago and I heard this guy talking about masturbation and sex and stuff and he said, "You don't usually walk into a morgue where they say 'he died from not masturbating'". So, from then on, I've had this semi-concious decision to stop masturbating - and it's worked! I've gone almost a week without masturbating! It's such a relief because I'm a Christian and stuff and I don't really like masturbating, but I was addicted and I've quit cold turkey!
Anyone else inspired to quit masturbating?

I've never been inspired, no.
There's no need to quit it, there are no bad health benefits (unless you go completely ott ofc). It's a perfectly natural and normal thing to do. Also, you being a Christian should make no difference to your final decision; no where in the Bible does it say that masturbation is wrong, so don't feel that it is.

Umm, yeah it is bad according to the bible..depending on how you interpret them there are several passages in the bible against masturbation genesis 38: 6-9, Corinthians 6:9 and Leviticus 15:16-18, but like most biblical passages it depends on both the translation used and the interpretation of the translation. I tried to give it up for lent once. Didn't work and there aren't really any harmful side effects.

True dat above two posters. On the contrary, masturbation has many benefits. Here's what about.com says about that:
Masturbation can increase self-knowledge
Masturbation can lead to self-discovery
Masturbation is nature’s sleep aid
Masturbation provides pain relief
Masturbation is a great stress reliever
Masturbation may offer cancer prevention
Plus it feels good. But it is ultimately your decision (rather, your will!) to not masturbate.

It's basically me just deciding. It wasn't SUPER based solely on religion - I've been jacking since I was about 11-12ish so I just decided to stop. I dunno, I feel like I've accomplished something pretty big. I dunno. I really enjoy not masturbating - call me crazy.

Masturbation has nothing to do with inspiration, divine or otherwise.
It results from something purely biological, the sex drive, which is an innate, wired in response to procreate and continue the species. You can try to not masturbate, but I doubt you'll be successful for very long, it's like holding your breath or not sweating.
The task is to get comfortable with yourself and your body, how it works, what it means to be a guy. As long as it doesn't interfere with your other responsibilities, then masturbation is perfectly fine and universal, everyone does it.

If you feel that your religion bars you from masturbating, you can feel free to do so. While I don't personally feel that Christianity bans such things, the experience of exercising your will power to that extent can be quite gratifying.
With that said, no I've never felt compelled to quit masturbating. Frankly, I don't think I could, but you're perfectly fine to try and quit.

The only reason I stop masturbating occasionally is for stronger orgasms. I don't see why you need to stop doing it though.

Well I respect your choice and your decision but no, I'm not inspired to copy you. For me cleaning up after a wet dream in the middle of the night is much more annoying.

Masturbation cures boredom and helps suppress true "sexual" feelings.

Agreed.
At the end of the day its your choice, its also part of your religion so it is good that you are honouring that.

Yeah wet dreams (as fun as they may be) become very annoying. I went through a phase where I felt I needed to stop masturbating as well though. I was (and kinda am still) addicted to it, and I felt that it was always on my mind. I personally would say to not quit cold turkey. Reduce to maybe once every two weeks or even less, but I think if you quit entirely then your hormones might become stronger and the sexual urge is going to be overwhelming at a certain point, since your body knows what it can do ;)

what a bunch of people wrote 1000's of years ago has no relevance to this period let alone to our generation. these were a bunch of old and miserable fanatics claiming to have written the word of god, control freaks who can't stand losing power to the next generation. stop because you want to, not because of some religious baggage mate

I don't understand why anyone would want to stop masturbating except for feeling guilty 'cus of religion. I would never do it.

Well, I think masturbation is a natural behave in the teenager's world, and there's no reason to feel guilty or uncomfortable with it. Personally I tried to quit masturbating when I was 15, I couldn't but then I understood that It's completely natural and now I'm ok with it. Also, I think that masturbation is gonna stop itself.

I often wonder how many people stop and read the posts ahead of them.
The 'religious beliefs' justification gets trotted out very frequently, but usually by those with an inadequate or incomplete understanding of biblical/religious concepts. If you speak with clergy (of most religions), they'll have a remarkably enlightened view of this normal and universal activity.
If the guilt you feel is the result of some 'Religious' issue, it would be best to clarify the current religious thought on masturbation, rather than feel awful or jump to conclusions about the 'wrongfulness' of it.

No, I haven't personally had such thoughts, but there are a lot of people like you. Due to our society, masterbation is seen as a "bad thing", when it really is the opposite! Religion, past society, and elders are the basis upon which such thoughts are created, therefore we unconciously believe that masterbation is a bad thing.
