i think a food forum would be good for VT
like a place to discuss cooking and share recipes for things and jsut share some nice foods that theyd had. maybe have a sticky on some easy recipes for simple meals and things like that???
well thats what i think anyway dont know if anyone else will agree
EDIT: my point was a lot of people are going to be trying to cook and many moving off to university and living in there own flats so my point was why not give them a place so they can know how to prepare healthy meals in an easy way so there not liviing of pot noodles and asda readymeals

Haha, that idea is rather cool.
I think it should go in the 4th Wall.

I think this is an awesome idea. :)
It would be a good place for people to discuss easy healthy recipes, Cooking methods and could encourage people to try something different.

This is a rather unique idea, while I see no explicit benefit in it I think it could be fun. Nonetheless is could do almost no harm.
+1 for Calum :P

It will be interesting to see what recipes people have.. Like Marcies for example.. I'm quite intrigued. :P

I voted no but if we combined the topic of food with other things like culture, or whatever, then I would vote yes.

I think this would be good in GD, not 4th Wall. We just added a forum to 4th Wall, so why add another? I agree with John; if we combine it with a forum for different cultures, then I could see it happen. But if it's flying solo, my vote is no.

I also like Bobby's idea, but since it would be a new forum, I just have an issue of all of the parts of it being utilized (foods, and fashion, etc).
I don't really think we need a forum just for foods, right after the fashion forum. Lifestyles seems to sum everything up really.

The reason I think it suits best in the 4th Wall is because it fits well with the other general "popular" culture topics such as Music, Sport and TV/Cinema. The topic "Food" doesn't go as well with Tech Junky's Paradise, Ramblings Of The Wise and TWPR in my opinion.
Also, I like the idea of it going solo rather than combining it with something else. The topic "Food" can cover a range of differing aspects and cultures.

I think that this has a lot of potential.
I took Home Economics (just Food Tech tbh) as a GCSE and there are quite a lot of things to discuss.
You could have a sticky on favourite snacks.
Everyone could make separate threads for any recipes they have, and then others could comment on what they thought after trying it or any changes in amounts or ingredients they suggest.
Maybe an equipment essentials with a list of what every kitchen needs and proper names for the equipment, along with a description (knowing that was part of our assessment).
There's also hygiene points like temperatures for fridges, freezers, and reheating / cooking.
We had a piece to do on "Special Diets" which included dietary tips for pregnant women (possibly useful on VT :P) and vegetarians (protein replacements etc).
Umm, what else? Oh, healthier alternatives. So take an everyday recipe and substitute ingredients e.g. herbs for salt.
There's budget recipes, which we HAD to do to pass. We planned a weeks worth of meals on a fiver per person.
So yeah, there's lotsa things that you could do with a Food Forum, which I feel should be separate from the Fashion Forum - but the Lifestyles idea was actually pretty good.

I don't know about an entire forum devoted to food. However I think something in the Gen Hospital focusing on healthy eating, cheap and easy recipes (good-tasting and good for you!), or perhaps a diary would be a good idea. I love cooking, and I love recipes that taste good but don't make me feel like a fatty. I also have a lot of good recipes from my mom and my grandma that I could share.
If it seems like there'd be enough activity then I say go for it. I don't think 4th Wall is a good location though. "The 4th Wall" refers to acting (which is why that section is artsy, and why the fashion forum is a smidge on the bubble as it is). It refers to acting like the open side of the stage, facing the audience, is a fourth wall, and that no one else is over there. So you're not talking to the audience, or acting to them, you're acting like they're not even there. I don't know if food fits in there. I agree that it seems not to fit GD perfectly either though...

What I was saying is that just a foruma but how to cook, I don'tt hink we should add.
If we added more topics onto that concept it has a chance.
The more general the better

I agree with jessi.
I don't know tho, i'm pro healthy eating, and a diary would be fine for it.
If anything a sticky on healthy eating in the VT General Hospital or Eating Disorders.
But an entire section for it?
not, feeling it.

I voted "no." I don't see a need for it. Hardly anyone has ever mentioned food in the past. We shouldn't create a forum for the sake of it, we should make one when we it's necessary.
However, if we were to create one, I like Bobby's idea and combine it with other topics, this way it'll get more activity.

Dude! I like this idea. I am not going anywhere nowadays but when I am away I'll try the recipes. Someone will have to post techniques how to cook them though. Not just tell the ingredients. If water was burn-able I would totally burn it! I am a really bad cook so this forum would probably improve it. nice idea =]

I totally agree with Euphoria. If we combine these things as lifestyle they will all click... Let's make one big forum with a lot of sub-catergories. It makes sense
Mzor203
July 17th, 2009, 11:05 PM
I don't like sub-categories. Honestly, sub-forums don't get as much activity because it's harder to get into them, and they're just more out of the way. A simple lifestyle forum I think would be best.

I think it'd be great as a lifestyles forum (once again).
Do example- I was making this fish fillets for my great aunts. I just followed directions in my head. Oil, bread crumbs etc. So I put it in a frying pan and then the bread crumbs make it look burnt. So i take it out and the fish is still cold. So i microwave it and put tons of salt on it.
let's just say my great aunts didn't appreciate my "hard work"
