Any suggestions on what best protects your hair against split ends, frying it, etc?

When you shower, first use shampoo, then put the conditioner in and leave it while shower. when ready to rinse out, make the temperature of the water cooler and rinse. When you come out, use a comb, not a brush, to de-tangle. Try not to blow dry or straighten very often, and only brush when needed.

I already knew all that.. and do so.
But like against straightening.
there has to be a way not to totally damage it >.<

Try to use shampoos and conditioners which are sulfate free. If you ever dye your hair, it really does help keep from washing the color out so fast, and it also tends to be nicer to your hair in general. Regular trims also keep split ends in check pretty well.

I straighten my hair a lot. What I do to make sure it is ok is I shower everyday using specialized shampoos and conditioners. I've also got thick and very strong hair that even bleach did not do much to so unfortunatly I can't help further

I was trying to reply on my phone at like 5:00 am in the morning but VT on the celluar doesn't work so well. But anywayz. My friend uses this silk lotion from chi, its in a red and sliver bottle. It works really well for her and its make her hair extremely soft and shiny. Their are testimonals on folica just type in chi silk and it'll show up. It a bit pricey but totally worth it, when I first got it I was obessed but I use to much at a time and was to lazy to get more. If the price is too overwhelming then go to Sally's beauty supply and their is a generic brand of it. Don't mistake this for the serum!
I personally use turn up da heat from sally's but it makes me hair look greasy after a while, it's great too though. hope this helped

My cousin has been experimenting with different shampoos, conditioners and all for heat damage. She swears on Dove new Heat Therapy system. So you can also try this. Inexpensive and trusted!

Well, what I have been doing lately is using an egg/olive oil mix on my hair to unfry it a bit, it works to!
I use two table spoons of olive oil and two egg yolks.
Leave it in for about 5-10 minutes then rinse and condition your hair thoroughly.
I do it about once every two weeks or so, and my hair is SO soft.
You can also use mayo too, I haven't tried that though because we don't have any in my house.
