I think all that depends on the person lying, I mean it's pretty obvious in a relationship there shouldn't be any lying to decipher. If the guy is a good liar it may get past the girl, if the girl is really good at reading people she'll probably catch them. Bottom line, there should be no lying, and chances are if you lie you'll get caught.

Well, I can mostly tell if someone is lying, even though I'm not a girl and I don't have a boyfriend or girlfriend, but it really depends.

For me, I really take time to decipher things like why someone missed a date or what they really did the other night. I look at the situation, think about the person, their family, normal life, and lots others (I observe so much its ridiculous). Then that goes with logistics. If someone tells me "Dude I got to sit in a P-51 Mustang at an airshow!" I'll probably believe them, and then question them a bit if i know about whatever they experienced. If someone tells me that they flew in an P-51 Mustang along with the pilot, I wouldn't believe them, because of over popularization and safety issues at the airshow. Now, it is admittedly easy to lie about what you drank with lunch, or what you had for dinner, but that shouldn't matter in relationships really. Okay this is going to lake to long to explain my psychoanalytical take on this, so down to reality.

If the person changes the subject after, doesn't look you straight in the eyes, twiddles with something whilst talking, runs out of things to say to fast, and just doesn't seem comfortable, he/she's probably lying.
