it depends if your a good reader, and how much you know the person.

Some people are good at reading others so they will naturally find detecting a lie easier. When you get to know someone then it is easier to tell if they are lying because we all have things we do unconsciously when we lie.
It also depends on how well the person who's telling the lie can hide it - those who can hide the fact that they are lying very well are less likely to be caught out.

My boyfriend can't really lie to me - not about anything important anyway.
And he also knows when I'm not being truthful because I tend to avoid eye contact and a couple of other things that he won't tell me about lol.
