Its not something we already know its just the legitamacy,
its not that i think the chatroom is a good idea but the fact that they're soo many horny people in there just comming in for pics and leaving. im not gonna say its not undercontrol because the mod's do a very good job and i appreciate it but i've noticed mods arnt always in the chatroom? i know you guys are busy n all but maybe u guys should do like a shift thing so that the users in the chatroom can get some help from other perverts, provided we give photographic proof, basically what im saying is how do you know that the chatroom is being used correctly when theres nobody in there but us

If you ever have a problem in there then contact an Admin, they can look through the chat logs (including private chat) and decide on what should be done. I have never once seen anything bad going on in the chatroom of that nature though. Mods can't spend all their time sitting in there either.

Well I try to moderate the chat room as often as I can.
Unfortunately I only have limited permissions in that area.
I can't see what people are doing behind the scenes.
That is why it is important for members like you to take a screenshot for evidence, and send it to a moderator that is on. That moderator will then be able to take appropriate action.
If you can do that, then you can make it safer for all of us. :)

and yesh thats true but 50% of the time when people pm u and say "hey" then u mite say hi bak then they will ask u asl? then they will ask how big is it, if they do you would have to coax them into gettin a pic for proof, lance told me that i cud get in trouble too? i know the goal isnt to bust someone but still?

It's okay lol
It was a valid idea, just not really feasible and it doesn't make sense when people can report things too :D

You will be banned for trading pictures or webcamming.
The goal is to make VT as safe a place as possible, if that involves banning someone, so be it.

Take a screenshot of them doing something against the rules and PM the picture to a admin, gmod, or normal moderator even. preferrably several moderators. Also, when you have someone that you think will try to get you to send them pics, there is a strict line between coaxing and going to far. you coax them as in giving your asl, if they ask penis size, ask "why so curious?" and stuff like that, and as soon as they ask the question, you stop the conversation, take a picture and send it off. If you go any farthur than them asking and you reporting, you will get in just as much trouble.

I've been monitoring the chat logs lately in the last couple weeks since I can see everything that is said and I have noticed an increase in the amount of 'horny' teens in there trying to pull one over the staff's heads. It's not something I do too regularly, so of course I miss some stuff. If there are any problems, please let any of the administrators know, that's what we're here for.

haha. jk.
Yeah. I thought everybody knew that chat logs are read by Admins. They don't catch everything though.
If Admins really do read chat logs, maybe it would be a good idea to edit the welcome message to say that what you say in the chatroom is monitored. That could discourage them.

I'm often in the chat room and I cant say I remember a lot a guys asking for photos or to cam, if they do I would just refuse anyway. There do seem to be quite a few newcomers who immediately open a private conversation window, which always strikes me as odd, but I tend to either ignore them or just answer "talk in the main room or not at all"

But you never said it didn't happen which means it happens which makes it bad still :P

We had a suggestion about that chat thing a while back and we never went through with it because we thought it would advertise more than discourage.
Maybe a small message like "All of your messages, including PMs, are being monitored. All VT rules apply"
instead of something like
IF YOU CAM WERE GONNA KILL YOU DONT YOU DARE THE MODERATORS ARE WATCHING YOU YOU WILL BE BANNED etc.

Should we report suspicious behaviour.
I've had a case in the last few days of a new person, a girl apparently, who has been pestering me in the chatroom. She's made no posts and doesnt talk in the lounge, just opens up private message windows. I tried ignoring.
It happened earlier today and one of the other guys that was on let on that she'd opened a private message window with him so I warned him to be careful. He said what do you mean and I said how long before she asks for a photo or webcam - he said she already had.
When I refused to talk to her and asked her to stop pestering she became very abusive. If there had been an admin on at the time, and there wasnt, I would have reported via pm because to me it was really suspsicious behaviour. But its not clear to me whether we should report suspicious behaviour if no rule has been broken, and if we should, how we go about it.

You can only report someone for doing something wrong. So if you got into the chatroom and she asked you to break a rule, get proof and report it to the mod thats online. That mod should ban/infract/whatever and ban from flashchat if needed. Don't get yourself caught in the middle because you will be reprimanded if you break a rule also.
If someone is PMing you inappropriately, just report the PM. There are many report options on our site, and our staff takes care of them right away usually. If if there is suspicious behavior, we usually keep an eye on people.
But if you have a problem with a person, don't forget that you have the option to ignore them so they can't contact you.

Sorry, but I think an actual warning is better than a "oh please don't, ok thanks". This is a serious problem here and I don't know about you, but I think it has grown.
Take a look at this GovTeen thread:
WEBCAMMING AND/OR PICTURE TRADING WILL GET YOU BANNED FROM GOVTEEN (http://forums.govteen.com/announcement.php?f=112&a=1118)
This rule shouldn't be overlooked and I don't see a reason not to scare people out of doing something like this.

I think thats wayy to flashy and it makes our forums look unattractive.
If we advertise the I WILL BAN YOU IF YOU SCREW UP crap, that will only motivate people to be more cautious and more secretive. I want them to be obvious so we can ban them easier :P

It seems a bit of a failing if I cant report suspicious activity because if I can only report violations that may be too late. I like to think I'm fairly savy about things, but in the case I outlined above the other guy was younger and may have been taken in. At first he was telling me things like "she seems to like me", and it was only when i said "how long before she asks for photos or webcam" that he cottened on and discontinued the private conversation. It ought to be possible to report suspicious behaviour and maybe if 2 or 3 people report the same person it should be taken seriously.
To be honest, if your serious about acknowledging that there is a problem in the chatroom if one person of experience and standing in there thinks a newcomer's behaviour is supsicious there should be a way of flagging that up.

Since I have no idea how to do that, I could suggest that you could take a screenshot. That's what Ant has told me to do.
I think that since you're an established enough member, your reports would be taken seriously.

Reports are always taken seriously.
I would just advise, if someone breaks a rule, report it by pressing the report button or PMing a staff member.
If you have a suspicion about someone, it would be faster if you contacted a senior I think because they can investigate more things than regular mods.
But we all accept reports and such, so the situations usually always get handled and handed to people that can appropriately handle it :P
wow, last sentence was epic :P

Are screenshots really needed, or could we just say when it happened and let the admins look at the logs?

Bingo
If you have your suspicions, then simply let us know and we can investigate, it only takes a matter of minutes to look through somebody's flash chat history. = ]

You don't have to do a screen shot. You can just copy and paste the log too that way it is a lot easier to find and look up.

Thats if you are giving it to admins right?
If they are reporting it to mods they need screenshot?

Well a screen shot is always helpful but if someone doesn't know how or can't, it won't be a huge deal since the problem can be sorted still But the more information the better, like chat logs and screen shots. Makes the issue be sorted a lot faster.

can you guys check the picture files sent too?

July 14th, 2009, 01:33 AM
You can send picture files in the chatbox? Well im guessing that they can, as they can see [almost] everything on this site. Including PMs, all chat logs, shoutbox posts, Reputation.
You name it and they can probably view it.
