Kitsune-chan and Ryukage-kun
by: Jenelle

This drawing is supposed to be a manga/anime version of me and my bf. The reasoning for the animal-like characteristics is that he's my Shadow Dragon [Ryukage] and I'm his fox [Kitsune]. (Lmfao, random nicknames, don't ask.). Anyways, I'd like to know what you all think, and how you think that I could improve on future drawings. Thanks!

Drawn with:
-Prismacolor Markers
-Copic Sketch Markers
-Faber-Castell inking pens

P.S. Sorry, the feet look a little bit funny because I shaded them wrong, especially his foot on the right-hand side of the picture...

How are they awkward? ... The one on the left side is a front view of the top of her foot pointing downward, and the one on the right is a slightly angled view of her foot from the side. On top of that, both of her legs are at different angles, which would result in something that would look similar to that. Also, you have to keep in mind, they're sitting on a tree limb, so their feet/legs are just hanging there, which may or may not make it look a little awkward.

Colors: Splendid
Shading: Marvelous
Proportions: Better than normal. :D

The moon? Could use more detail though, even a full moon holds detail. ;P

Lol, thanks! .... Yea, I could have added details in the moon, but I thought it would look like it was glowing brighter if I didn't add the shadows that are usually in a full moon.... ^-^;

It steals away from your primary focal, so in a sense, it's too bright actually.

... I know it sounds a little odd, but, that was kinda my intention... The moon was supposed to be both the focal and the main light source. =/ .... I have weird drawing tendencies, I suppose.... Lol.

Not really, weird, a light source, although not conventional, can be a focal. Hard to get it to work right with shadows and such, but it can be done.

Btw, your sky, it ripples! >.>

If I bug you say so, k? I critique art to no end. :/ It's a curse.

Lol, don't worry about it... btw, the ripple-effect in the sky was un-avoidable because I couldn't get the markers to colour the right way.... I thought it would look better that way than colouring in random scribbles all across the paper... =/

the eyes are large, and a bit buggish.
if your going for anime, try a different eye, ive seen this before, and it never turns out well.

I realized after taking the picture, his head is proportionally slightly big.... and the way the hair is makes his head look flat...... but... maybe its something else that might make it look awkward?

Hmm... in my opnion, I would start by drawing your favorite manga/anime characters [from pictures that you can look at], just to get used to using the drawing style. There are many different variations of the style, all that are unique to each artist. In other words, once you're used to drawing the characters from other artists and making them look atleast semi-similar to what they're supposed to be, you should easily be able to create your own characters using your own style of drawing. [Btw, drawings of already-existing characters don't need to be exactly like the original drawing. For instance, if you add or take away certain details, that's fine, because that can help show your originality.] I hope that helps! :)

~Jenelle

[P.S. That isn't exactly what I did, but I've heard many similar suggestions to that before, and apparently it's supposed to work? Lol.]
