If you really dont want anything to do with the site anymore, delete anything on your profile and so on.

We do not delete profiles except in extreme exceptions. If you do not want this account, edit out all your posts (not that many) and remove all content.

Why did you come to the site? It's been helpful for most people.

I don't understand why people join the site and ask for their account to be deleted a few days later :| Just log out and don't come back. That simple.

I think people should have an option to erase your own account, like on MySpace.

Indeed it does. Especially if you use the 'Retain Posts' option!

I still fail to see why the staff is so concerned about deleting users.
They should be glad to, frees up usernames for other people to use.

Is that even an option on VT?

The system has plenty of space for more users. And most people who want their account deleted have names with with letters and numbers like yours so they'll never be picked as a username again.

That's phpbb3.

But there is an option for it on vBulletin. However it comes up as "Guest" which is confusing and stupid.

But yea, they aren't deleted because it screws up threads in more than one way. Also the member may come back :D

I know it's phpBB, as I don't have a screenshot for vB.

But yes, it does come up as guest, their usertitle, not their username.
Such as this post (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/showpost.php?p=166152&postcount=77). Not confusing as the username remains, their usertitle is just changed to guest.

There will be no holes in conversations, no 'suddenly missing posts', no confusion of it looking like someone was talking to themselves.

So, yet again, if the staff can give me a good reason as to why they're not deleting users, then I'll shut up.

Is it /really/ that hard to re-register?
It takes all of what? Maybe 5 minutes tops?

Well whats the point of re-registering if you can just leave your account on here? Plus the person's Post count..Reputation..Blogs are hard to get back after you've lost them all since your account was deleted.

Why are you so adamant in having users deleted?

I got this question on ARG a lot. I just made sure everyone knew that I didn't delete accounts under any circumstances. I will never understand requesting your account deleted. If you leave, no one will remember you.

I'm not.
I'm actually against accounts being deleted.

I just don't get the staffs' reasoning for it.
They've time and time again said that it'll cause confusion, and suddenly posts will disappear, which I have pointed out, isn't ture.

I'm looking for a true answer as to why they won't delete, not false claims.

If staff isn't being truthful about this, then what else aren't they being truthful about?

I dunno about the staff here, but for me, I didn't do it because it's a hassle with no purpose. Perhaps the staff here won't say it, but I bluntly said that the person's problem didn't warrant enough attention for me to waste the minute it would take me to delete it.

That right there is the kind of answer I'm looking for from the staff.
Nice and truthful.

Well i know that it will mess with the quotes. The blogs. The threads, as posts getting deleted. There are a few exceptions to that one, because of users making more then 1 account and such.

And why are you questioning the staff's reasoning? They do alot of stuff that we cant see on this site. They arent gonna waste time deleting an account while the threads are vanishing, the server is dying andthere are a flock of people that need infractions for fighting and backseat modding. Who knows what happens back there when you delete a user?

And the staff has a right to "lie" to us, we dont need to know whats going on in the staff only rooms and etc. Unless they tell us.

I'm sorry, but that's very naive. I have a very colonial American outlook on government and administration. I've moderated, administrated and ran many forums in the past and I've always been highly respected because I was always candid with what was going on, was 100% impartial and made people feel comfortable with my staffing.

Nothing really happens when you delete someone on vBulletin, but it's an annoying process with no purpose. If it were something that had a significant impact on anything at all, I'd say it warranted attention. Otherwise, leave it be.

Only if the circumstances are outstanding,
Will it be considered.

Thank you Steph.
That's what I was looking for.
That's what I was trying to extract from other members.

Not some BS 'it messes with the forum layout', where, if anyone has ever done any kind of work with any forum software, you know that just isn't true.

It is true. When you have threads with missing posts then they don't make any sense. Or if you have a popular active thread, once the account is deleted, the entire thread disappear.

Sure we can just delete the profile, but majority of account deletion requests involve posts too.

MoveAlong

Someone's probably going to come up with the argument that you don't have to delete the account's posts. But you have to keep in mind that many account deletion requests involve deleting of posts so nobody can search their username on Google and find their posts later (they want privacy). So the only option is to delete the posts, which creates the problems that Ant stated.

I hope I didn't just repeat what Ant said. God I'm tired.

Banned is a little different from being deleted. But no, you cannot access the forums or post from that account if you are banned.

I suggest you PM an Administrator for your problem, it's really going no where by posting in this thread...

why are you so adamant in having the account deleted? just leave and never return. Period.

i think he doesnt really want to go, but is trying to find the easy way out, of whatever he wants to get out of, 6 days it has been that this started, day number 6 he posts... uh? what? he comes, posts, goes, wastes the time of mods, going on about being banned... makes no sense... as almost every post here...JUST GO AND DONT COME BACK... AS EASY AS PI

Just a question to the old timers of VT: How many threads are started about ppl wanting to be deleted?

So far i think ive seen about 3 to 4. not sure.

I've had that threat before. "LoL if u dnt ban me i fux with forum." Lets just say that didn't fair too well for them. I think the effects of that threat blowing up in their face still lingers to this day.

This has gone far enough.
If you have a major issue,
You need to get in touch with either Maverick or myself.

Doing something to be banned will do you no good,
Because all of your posts will still be here.

Bottom line:
We DO NOT delete accounts.
Simply edit your personal information,
Then log out and never return.
